It’s Okay To Resuscitate Your Old Discarded Story Ideas
Your creativity and energy can bring them back to life and make them live again
Have you ever thought of a story idea and then rejected it right away?
I certainly have.
Goodness, I could fill a country county with all of the thoughts I’ve had that almost became stories but didn’t quite get there. Too many to count, my friend.
Given that I haven’t written anything down on paper over the past five years in regards to my ideas and suggestions, I guess it would be rather difficult for me to recall anything specific. But I can tell you for certain that I’ve passed on quite a few things.
Here are a few recent thoughts (story titles) that didn’t get to second base in my writing process, for one reason or another.
- My Favorite Medium Writer. You just can’t do this type of story, can you? Of course not. What if the subject of the story doesn’t want the extra attention? It is just not going to happen, but it is fun thinking about what wonderful things could be written about the person. Maybe one day, of course.
- My Hopes And Dreams. I guess I’m not in my prime any more. But I will tell you one thing and that is back in the day I was one highly-motivated soul who wanted to achieve greatness. I knew what I wanted to do and I pursued it vigorously, but I never got to where I wanted to be. It’s hard to handle, so I don’t want to talk about it.
Listen, you never know when you might change your mind and decide to use a story idea that you once entertained but then discarded. Try and keep some thoughts as potential future stories for yourself.
I might decide to get a little basket and put in some notes, writings and anything else I might be able to use in the future. You see, it’s good to have a backup in case something isn’t quite ready for you to share with the world.
Your story idea might not work today, but there is always tomorrow or next month. Some stories are just waiting for a few more pieces of information or hoping for your passion for them to arrive.
When you are ready, get your CPR skills on deck and go and resuscitate those previous ideas. Pretty soon they will be alive and well and waiting for you to finish your creative process and get them published for the world to read and enjoy.
