It’s Okay To Be Sad And Talk About It
You can face bigger consequences if you don’t
Last Thursday, I was feeling really sad. I don’t know why though.
I am an experimental researcher so I perform a dozen experiments every day. Some of my experiments were not working and also some instruments were not working as well.
I feel like maybe that’s why I was sad. I was not seeing any progress in my work and felt disappointed. The feeling of sadness was making me anxious to do other talks.
I am a very optimistic guy and always look for hope.
I always thought that you should be positive all the time. But I was wrong. It’s ok to be sad. It’s ok to cry.
We are humans in the end and not robots. So it’s natural to feel the emotions. One thing I learned from this experience:
“The more you avoid your negative emotions, the more you suffer”
Therefore, you should not suppress your sorrow. Instead, accept it and feel it. There is nothing wrong with that. Don’t fall into the trap of being positive all the time.
Also, if you are feeling sad, don’t make the mistake of not talking to anyone. Don’t be afraid of being vulnerable.
When I reached home last Tuesday, I called a couple of my friends and discussed my problem. They patiently listened to me. I felt really nice after that and was able to sleep well.
There is nothing wrong with being vulnerable. Instead, being vulnerable improves your relationship with people.
So be open about it and let people know you are not okay. Don’t try to be too independent and think about you don’t need anyone. We are humans and we need other people to support us.
Whatever I have achieved in my life, my friends and family have played a big role in that. And I always reach out to them if I am not feeling well.
So, if you are feeling sad don’t worry about it. It’s an emotion. It will come and go. After all,
The weather is not always sunny
So why should we expect humans to be happy and cheerful all the time?
Talk to your friends and family if you are not ok. Let them know. You will be surprised to see people’s responses. People always want to help each other. You just have to reach out to them and let them know.
Thanks for reading.
