WRITING PROMPT | THEME

It’s November, the Leaves Are Falling, and It’s Time for a New Prompt

November writing theme/prompt at Age of Empathy

I don’t know about anyone else but I had a bundle of fun with spooky themes during the month of October.

I especially loved the collection of essays that we received and published here at AoE, in response to the seasonal theme, In the Dark of Night. For anyone who hasn’t had the chance to read all of them, here is a recap:

KiKi Walter shared her spooky hometown with us, and what happened when she broke into a haunted college one night.

Emerson Dameron found himself surrounded by chaos and a world on the verge of falling apart, one Halloween night.

Kate Stone Lombardi is busy counting in the dark of night.

Barbara Carter has a treasure trove of tales to tell from her youth and this spooky one certainly didn’t disappoint:

Debra Groves Harman, MEd gave us a stark warning about real-life predators in the dark of night.

Catherine Dunn’s story of a baby being born on Halloween night is chilling…and a true story of the birth of her niece.

Allie G, on the other hand, found an interesting way to get to sleep in the middle of a Halloween party.

And a couple from me:

And that rounds up our spooky October theme. It’s time now for a new month of inspiration and storytelling.

November’s theme is…

Falling

Over the last couple of months, we have been watching the leaves slowly turn from green through yellows, oranges, reds, and browns. Our once-emerald lawns are covered in a decorative carpet of autumnal tones, and the lanes, the parks, and sidewalks are iridescent in the sunshine.

The leaves have been falling, falling, falling and they keep on going. And so, this seemingly endless falling inspired my word — my theme — for this month.

Falling

As ever, what you do with it is up to you. Falling…in love? Falling down metaphorically? And perhaps getting pack up again?

Falling physically? Or watching things or people falling away in your life?

As ever, please use the tag/topic “Falling” to have your story featured in our monthly prompt section of the pub’s homepage.

So sharpen those pencils, flex those typing fingers, and let’s see what stories come falling our way.
