Augmentation
It’s not about the words, it’s about the feeling

I’ve been waiting my whole life to write poetry.
To have something to say, To not too careful in the words I choose. To not care what’s popular or cool. Or how my words will make others feel, but only how they affect me. This is my purpose, This life I’ve been given. I’m not afraid to be hated for it. Because if I fail, at least I try. and when I’m gone, some person may read my words and say, “He was so brave to do what he did, even if he was hated.” It’d be nice to know that somebody thinks that, but I’m content to know that I did it anyway.
So now, I’d like to share my poem with you. It’s called “Augmentation.” If you don’t know what augmentation is, do not worry, you will soon after reading this poem. And the meaning of this poem is simple: Be kinder to other people and make the world a better place.
You opened the door And it was black The darkness was the night I saw and felt the stars I walked in those dark hallways to find my way outside And then I saw the light, white and beaming in the distance But when I got closer, this light turned out to be me I stepped through that door, and I was what I once was but always feared And I was all alone, in that darkness that I’d left behind But if you look up from your hiding place, you’ll find there is someone else The light I saw in the distance is looking back at me And it’s just another star, a little closer to the sky than none before it was. I’ve been waiting my whole life to write poetry This beautiful, this freeing, and this honest I can’t believe I’ve been stuck inside this body my whole life. It was a prison. Now I am free. I’m so grateful you opened that door for me. I hope you’ll stay in the light, and let me know when you’re ready.
