It’s Not A Crime Feeling “Helpless”

But It can become one if you are desperate.

Helplessness is a definitively broad term, but in my experience, it can lead from school life to social life, from parental abuse to teacher abuse. Helplessness is in our nature, it’s human nature to feel afraid — to know there is no one to help us. It’s perhaps the most humane thing about us, and facing our fear of helplessness is something I admire.

During my middle teenage years (15–17), I felt helpless in many occurrences whether it be bullying, the teacher’s abuse, or the abuse from friends and family — I have seen it all. At times in my life, I have been in grim situations even desperate at times to seek help but no one to help. I believe helplessness is not a sin, and neither a crime — if you can’t seek help, there is a far worse thing from helplessness and that is called desperation.

“Feeling lost, crazy, and helplessness belongs to a good life as much as optimism, certainty, and reason.” ― Alain de Botton

Desperation for help can actually cause you a lot of harm. You can lose your life, and even what you still have left seeking this form of help. And if you lose yourself in desperation, it will be hard for you to realize what’s what. Because when you are desperate for help and you don’t get it. The helplessness that comes from this can actually have adverse psychological effects on a person’s mind.

I have seen a few people grow mad as they went further into the rabbit hole. It is something I avoid and advise to never fall prey to it altogether no matter how tempting the solution you seek is if its through desperation. Run the other way, it’s not worth it.

During my final teenage years(17–19), even though I would pray every day from God to help me, I was patient to seek refuge in his place. I believe the only ever true help I have received is from God, Even though there were at times, I have felt helpless but that is perhaps because of the situations and underlying concerns of what I was experiencing.

There are certain horrors of our world and society that I believe no one should witness or see. They are happening right now, as we speak. But as the society is divided into layers, and most people are unaware of these layers thus whoever gets caught in such messes is bound to feel helpless as no one is neither able to relate, nor they can intervene.

In those times, I believe I did feel helpless but at time same time I felt hopeful. It was perhaps a percent of everything. Hope is never lost, and help is never far away. It’s all that lies in a choice, Our Choice. Some things are in our control, and we can control to not feel helpless but when the helplessness comes from something within us, I believe that fear is inescapable and it cripples us.

But I believe even then we can overcome it, there are somethings realistically speaking we can’t overcome. I know that from experience. Our humanity and mortality is an important factor in our survival. Helplessness just decreases our chances of survival, as it is the first thing that breaks our hope. The fear that follows shatters it, and madness awaits when you are desperate.

It is neither a sin nor a crime to feel helpless. But being desperate in helplessness is never the solution. Thinking calmly, breathing the air inside and exhaling outside, and focusing on what you can do will open doors and options for you. Do this, breathe deeply. Remember there is always another way you can rewrite the story. The journey will be tough, you will break many times, and you will be tainted, and you will be pushed to make hard choices.

It is a good thing to accept when you’re helpless, as you can focus on finding a way that will.

But I assure you, you will make it. Everybody does who thinks calmly about the things that are needed to be done for your survival. You will make it, trust the process. Even feeling helplessness can spark a hope, you just have to breathe and find it within. Salvation awaits, and it’s on the other side of persevering through your helplessness. So just persevere, and hang in there.
