It’s Never Too Late to Do What You Should Have Done

The best time to plant a tree

If only had I gone to college

If only had I study French

If only had I bought Tesla stock

If only had I invested in Bitcoin

If only had I asked that girl out

If only had I started that side hustle

Welcome to regretland, the only place where hindsight is 20/20.

So many things you’ve missed! Your life would be so perfect if only… you have taken action, confronted your fears, and stuck to your guns, no matter what.

But now it’s too late. Or is it? No matter what your regret is, it’s never too late to become the person you were meant to be. If you live in the past, you’ll miss out on a great future.

The party is just starting

Do you feel you are late for Bitcoin, the Internet, Blogging, YouTube, TikTok, Amazon, Facebook, or Podcasting? Wait 5 years, then you’ll realize that 2021 was only the beginning.

Take Bitcoin, for example. Today has reached yet another All-Time High of $44,000, so now it’s too late to invest, some will say. But what if in 5 years it reaches $300,000? Would you still think today’s price was expensive? Maybe not.

Obviously, it would have been better to buy at $10,000 or $1000 or even $1. But that’s gone, never to be seen again. Manhattan’s Island was sold for just $1000, now a tiny apartment there cost $1 million. Shall we wait until the price of Manhattan drops to four figures again to invest?

My point is, looking at the past and blaming yourself for your mistakes is futile. While you are too busy, ruminating there are even bigger opportunities around the corner and unless you stay focused, in 5 years’ time you’ll be regretting all the opportunities you missed now.

Forget the past, focus on the present. Find out what you can do to improve your life, situation, finances, skills, and take action now, not tomorrow.

Take action now

There has never been a better time in history to achieve anything.

We are living in unprecedented times, full of uncertainty but especially full of opportunities. You can learn anything for free on YouTube, get jobs that haven’t been invented yet, create a company out of thin air and sell millions, invest in Timbuktu real estate, a start-up in Pakistan, or in the Malaysian stock market.

The world is your oyster, and you can access it from anywhere with an internet connection. The Internet has been with us for roughly 25 years, but it’s still a baby. We haven’t even imagined the potential it can reach and how many people it can affect positively.

Here are some facts:

  • Global Internet Penetration is 60%. This might sound big, but it’s not. Not only 3.2 billion people have never gone online, but of those who had, the usage has been minimal. We’ve just scratched the surface.
  • Most technologies are still in the early days. Blockchain, A.I., Machine Learning, Self-driving cars, Internet of Things, 3D printing. You can position yourself in any of these fields, even if you’re not an expert in a matter of months. And this is not just for technical people either, there are marketing, planning, organizing, promoting, and teaching opportunities here that can’t be possibly be filled in the short term.
  • These aforementioned technologies are going to combine to produce even bigger disruptions. Mix blockchain with Biotechnology and you can trace your organic tomatoes to a farmer in India you can trust. Mix 3D printing with Machine Learning and you have a machine that improves output in creative ways. When two existing technologies get combined, the possibilities are infinite.

Don’t regret the future

Regretting the past is normal, we all wish we could have done better, but if you don’t want to be in the same position in 5, 10, or 20 years you must start getting your shit together now.

This is my suggestion

Find something that excites you. Whether it’s technology, art, or sport, become an expert in that area.

Tell the world about your passion. Not tomorrow, when you are already an accomplished master, but today, while you are still learning the ropes. Share your journey through all the channels you can get — blogging, YouTube, social media, podcasts, books, courses, etc. This will take time until it gets traction, be patient, don’t give up and you’ll reap the benefits in a few years.

Become fluent in digital marketing. Whatever you sell, you need to reach people and for that you need to be good at SEO, building an email list, affiliate marketing, online advertising, etc.

Think like an entrepreneur. You don’t have to become a business owner in the classic sense, but look at the world through the lens of opportunity. Get used to asking yourself questions like, ‘Why?’ or ‘How?’, about everything you see. Question everything. Observe a pain and try to find a solution. The future doesn’t arrive on its own, it’s created by entrepreneurs.

Stay healthy. Nothing you do or achieve will mean anything if you are sick. Invest in yourself. Eat properly, don’t drink, don’t smoke, and exercise regularly. Engaging in bad habits like junk food or alcohol is just a way to compensate for your lack of purpose. Make your life exciting and you won’t need any of that.

Travel. Take an entire month off every year and go to faraway places. If you have family, take them with you. If they don’t want to, go alone. You must explore the world and recharge your batteries.

Read good books. A little less Netflix and a little more Seneca.

Invest. Find solid companies that will be around in 20 years — Tesla, Amazon, Google, Apple — just to mention a few. Stack a little cash on stocks every month. Same for crypto-currencies and anything related to blockchain. Buy Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano, and wait. Magic will happen.

Disclaimer: Not financial advice.

Write a book. Put your thoughts onto paper. Write the book you would like to read now and also in 20 years’ time. This could literally change your life. I’ve done it, and it has.

Conclusion

Whether you are 18 or 80, it’s not too late. Nobody knows how much time we have left, all we have is now, and wasting it’s a sin.

You never regret what you have done, you regret what you haven’t done. So grow a pair and show the world what you are made of. This might be your last chance. Are you going to waste it again?
