THOUGHTS

It’s Important To Recognize And Appreciate One’s Achievements

Because if you don’t, no one else will.

We have always had a complex relationship with our parents. There is always that generation gap, because of which we sometimes fail to understand the other side’s perspective. But irrespective of that difference, there are also those few common scenarios of childhood, which we all have faced.

In our childhood days of hormones kicking in and internal emotions warfare, the time of self-discovery, peer-pressure, and whatnot. We have all had our bad days and good but in our parent’s eyes, the bad ones stick out like a sore thumb. They will also let us know what exactly they think about our mishaps as well. Not even the slightest slip goes unnoticed. In that moment of beckoning, where we confess all our sins and wait for our final judgment, I am sure most of us have had that thought at a few times in our head, where we ask ourselves or our parents, “How come you keep pointing out my mistakes over and over but fail to appreciate me when I have done well?

Well, at least I for one asked my mom this question ‘n’ number of times. She always had a little smile on her face, pulls a teary-eyed mess that I am into a warm embrace, and tells me, “It’s not that I don’t see your achievements but sometimes it just slips off my mind to appreciate each and every little thing.

See, the point is that in our heads, when someone takes a wrong turn, we see that as an opportunity to point it out and steer them the right way so that they can do better. But when we achieve something though we recognize it, we sometimes forget to voice it out and appreciate it, thinking well they are in a good place, so not much requirement for interference. Even achievements are an opportunity, an opportunity to appreciate and motivate them to do even better in the future. To tell them that they can achieve more and can dream bigger dreams and set more ambitious goals.
