BJ’s This or That | Life By Numbers
It’s Important in Life to Stop and Count the Roses
Wait. I didn’t get that right, did I?

Smelling the roses is all well and good, but have you ever stopped to count them? I don’t make a habit of counting flowers. Usually, I stop and smell them like my life will be better if I do, and you know what? It works. Stopping to smell the roses is a life hack worth its salt.
Today, Karen Schwartz is asking me to count the roses. But not just the roses, she wants me to count a lot of things. From 1 through 7, Karen asks that I put a few words to each number with reverence for what that number means in my life.
This one feels so difficult to wrap my head around! Especially the big numbers because I rarely count past 3 if I don’t have to…
If you want to do Karen’s Challenge click here. I LOVE how people are using personal pics, so I’m going to do that, too. Give everybody a little selfie action!
Let’s play…

BJ’s Life in Numbers
ONE…
There is literally just one me. If there were more of me, then I’d have to get the identity-theft-finder people involved and that’d be annoying.
I studied abroad once, in Australia! I was there for 5 months and really want to go back so I can enjoy it as an adult instead of as a nervous college student.

I have one tattoo and it is on my right forearm. It’s a constellation. Can you guess which one?
Every day, I eat one English muffin. I love them! The best English muffins are from a bakery in Napa called Modern Bakery, but store-bought is just fine for every day.
My partner and I used to have one fish, an Oscar named Pudge (he controlled the weather) that had to be rehomed because he scared the sanity out of my sweet pibble, Bella Jo.
If there’s one thing I’ll always travel for, it’s wine. Or a beach. Better yet, wine on a beach.
I have one “adventure pack” and one “adventure hat”. Yes, I am a bit of a child. I label things with what they are because labels matter. Every time I grab either one, I know an adventure is just around the corner because of what it’s called.
TWO…

I like to have two chocolates every night after dinner for dessert if I don’t have anything else made. I have such a sweet tooth!
I have two sisters. One is older and one is younger. That makes me a middle child. Can I get three cheers for middle kiddos? (Because we need a little extra love!) Woo! Woo! Woo!
I have two “pups” (they’re 7 and 8, but they will forever be pups to me). The city of Dallas calls them both pitbulls despite the fact that Bella Jo is all Staffordshire and Teague has NO pitbull in him, but his face looks a bit snouty so… Love pitbulls. Just do it. That’s my PSA. P.S. I love my two dogs.

Two of my fingers have rings on them. Both of my ring fingers; I LOVE symmetry.
My two hiking shoes are some of my favorite shoes. They are comfortable and waterproof and sometimes I just wear them when my partner and I go walking down our local city trail and I play my own game, one I call “The Sidewalk is Lava”, where I try to keep my hiking shoes on hiking ground (not cement) the whole way. It’s hard! And so much fun. When I get home, I always feel more connected to the dirt, though. To the Earth, and I love that.
THREE…
Sometimes, I have three chocolates after dinner if my hand wanders (and I let it). The bowl is RIGHT THERE and it’s just one more...
Three is a magic number, not just because School House Rock says so, but also because it just is. I love things in 3s. Three of everything! It’s just right and round-feeling, the number 3. Also, the number 9, which is THREE THREES.
My parents had three girls, which might be cheating because I kind of used that one already, but it’s true!

My mom liked to say “Two’s company, three’s a crowd”, like being in a group with more than one person was a problem because of sheer numbers. I don’t love that today, perhaps because it was just a way to normalize the bullying that happened in my family in my early years. And because it’s dumb. Three is a magic number (see above).
Our home today has three bathrooms! It might be too many bathrooms, but it’s nice to always have one close at hand. I love the home I share with my partner and our dogs. It’s the best.
FOUR…
I’m supposed to take a break from writing every day at 4 PM because I have a hand-written and entirely balanced routine to follow, but I rarely do. It’s just I’m always in the middle of a great thought or I just have this one more thing to do or read or write and before I know it, it’s 5:30 and my lover is home from work, walking into the kitchen and in my head, I’m like: Oops. Again. Try again tomorrow.

Speaking of…
Here he is!
Oops. (Again.) Write again tomorrow!
