It’s getting real now. We can no longer swipe left on the environment. We have to swipe right and engage…

I am forever moved by the term Year Zero, and my life will never be the same again.

At the present rate of decline, mathematical models predict that all significant wild animal populations will be gone by 2026.

2026 — is The Year Zero

Take a moment to let that sink in.

I am old enough and ugly enough to remember a time when introducing the term, Carbon footprint, left everyone scratching their heads as to what it could possibly mean.

It’s true,

coming out of the 80s and 90s, we were so far up our own asses that the term carbon footprint, which seems so self-explanatory today, was far too abstract for our narcissistic minds to fathom.

Since then we’ve had wholesale adoption of many environmental terms into our daily vernacular. Many bordering on apocalyptic, yet, the destruction goes on.

Nothing changes.

Every new term and redefinition of an old term hasn’t stopped us or changed us — enough.

Today, we’re breaking records right across the board on environmental destruction and the possibility of a climate catastrophe is hurtling towards us.

Yet,

we still

haven’t

changed.

We adapt to every new term, that portends our imminent demise like they’re a new App.

New term — got it! Not interested. Swipe left and on to the next thing.

Our engagement with the only planet we have has to be on a deeper level than Tinder.

At some point, we have to be moved to action.

For me, it is Year Zero.

I can no longer swipe left and continue my indifference.

On the term Year Zero, I’m swiping right.
