Summary

The author has been waiting nearly two years for their Nexus card application to be processed, despite the promised 39 business day turnaround, and is now facing a lack of available interview appointments, which is compounded by the inability to travel due to COVID-19.

Abstract

The author of the web content expresses frustration over the prolonged waiting period for their Nexus card, which they applied for with the intention of facilitating their frequent travels to Australia. The author's application was caught in limbo due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and although they have been approved for an interview, no appointments are currently available. This situation is exacerbated by the fact that the author cannot travel, yet the application fee was collected at the beginning of the process. The author's experience is shared in the context of a story inspired by another writer's similar experience.

It’s almost 2 years since I applied for a Nexus card and I still don’t have it…

I’d decided $50US would be a worthwhile investment given my decision to make two trips down under each year, instead of the usual one.

I have to transit through the USA if Vancouver flights are unsuitable. The Nexus card takes the pain out of immigration at the airport. Pre-screening of your background allows you to bypass the line-up, saving some time on an already arduous trip.

By the time Covid hit, my application was still waiting to be processed — so much for the 39 business day turnaround they reported.

Although I have now been approved to have my interview, there are no appointments available. Nor can I travel!

Meantime, they took my money — 2 years ago!
