It’s Alive/It Lives Again
Reliving the memories of a freaky night out.

It was the fall of 1978. I was living in Moore, Oklahoma, at the time with my B.J. Roberts. Those were my hippie days. I managed the Pizza Hut on NW 12th Street in Moore, about two blocks from our apartment. Not only were we roommates, we also worked together.
It was customary for us, and other colleagues to party together after work and on our days off. We’d usually buy a couple of six packs and go to the lake and party till three or four in the morning.
The “gang” comprised me, BJ, Michele, Debbie, Steve, Bill, Diane, and “Chief.” Chief joined the Marines and left me a deposit slip and a blank check, saying, “Y’all have a party on me with my last paycheck.” It was considerably larger than what Chief said it would.
So instead of a few six packs, we bought a keg of beer and an oz of Jamaican grass. We still had enough left to go to a doubleheader show.
Have you ever been to a doubleheader of horror movies when you’re hungover and stoned? Yup, that’s exactly what we did. What were the two movies that we saw? It’s Alive (1974), which set the stage for the sequel, It Lives Again, which was just released.
I would describe for you the whole experience if I could remember it. Suffice it to say, I will never try it again.
Day three of the retroactive SCBWI writing prompt for May3rd, which I missed because I didn’t join Amy Marley and others until the 8th. You can see Amy’s recap here.
As always, thank you for reading and responding.
