It’s About 100 Readers; Not Followers
Are we becoming a game show?
I recently went through this whole thing about getting the required following, and since I did, I am seeing nothing but headlines about the elusive 100 followers. I am fully aware that everyone goes through this strange form of hazing in order to have their voice heard. BUT, and it’s a big one; we’re writers, we need people to read — not follow. I’m wondering if there’s any way, we could factor that into the headlines.
My concern is, if we stay with this tired old routine, it really wouldn’t be considered as evidence that we knew the right way of wielding a pen, now, would it? It’s a good experience to go through, but it’s over too quickly. Get 100 Followers in Ten Minutes was the headline I last read.
This site is about writing; Marshall McLuhan, the ‘Communication Theorist,’ said in 1964, ‘The Medium is the Message’ — and if he took one look at this situation, I’m pretty sure he’d say, You Need Readers; not followers. Follower’s sounds like sheep! There’s a whole idea for a game show right there. There are big bucks in a game-show, we could all be millionaires overnight — CRYPTO — yeah, that’s it! We need crypto in it, too! Now we’re getting somewhere. SSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Sorry, completely forgot I was in the reading room of a library: Okay, as I was saying… If it is at all possible to fit the word Readers into those headlines, I for one would sure appreciate it, and I’m pretty damn sure the whole world would, too.
…and by the way, if anybody takes this brilliant idea to Hollywood and sells it, make sure I’m in there for a percentage right… Right?!!
Subject first mentioned in an email to Spencer Coffman, about an article he had mentioned me in. Early Sunday morning — Mothers Day.
