It Wasn’t Psycho, But It Was My Shower Horror Story
Can you imagine taking a shower and looking down at your legs to see blood pumping out of a pinhole in one leg? No, I wasn’t shaving my legs. I looked in horror as I saw blood spraying all over the shower. I thought my heart was pumping blood through my skin. Thank God my husband was home because I screamed for him to rescue me.
He bolted through the door and was in shock at the sight of so much blood. He grabbed a towel, wrapped it around my leg, and put pressure on it. I climbed out of the shower so we would be better positioned to put more pressure on it. It took a couple of towels and what seemed like an eternity to stop the blood.
When he unwrapped my leg, he expected to see a gaping cut. I showed him what looked like a tiny little hole from which all the blood came. He couldn’t believe it! He put an ace bandage around it, and we headed to the emergency room.
As I explained everything to the nurse and my husband told her about all the blood, she calmly explained what had happened. She noted that I had varicose veins, which hold a lot of pressure. She assured both of us that I wouldn’t have bled to death because it was in a varicose vein, but she showed us how to put pressure on it and for how long if something like that ever happened again.
That nurse was helpful and comforting and even told us about another patient who experienced something similar. We were even laughing by the time we left. My husband was so glad to hear that it wasn’t as bad as he thought and told the nurse that our bathroom looked like there had been a massacre there.
We never did figure out why that little pinhole appeared. The nurse gave us a number for a vascular surgeon, and my husband made sure I set up an appointment. Fortunately, there was never another occurrence.
