It Was The Ring

Two poems that take on a different meaning when you read the lines from bottom to top

Image by my co-author Harper Rivz

1. A husband’s strong feeling of love was awakened during a terrible dream.

2. The feeling of love is strong from the story’s beginning.

Oh, it was the ring!

During the rain

Who rings so late?

The door, the bell

Twas so extreme

The way it felt

The dream seemed real

The turning keel

The clanking rust

The sound, the thrust

The eerie noise

The scream, the gusts

The sloping poise

The weight-adjusted

The Gail did wail

The storm howled

The windblown sail

The sharks that prowled

They “ringed” the boat

The boat rose tall

The waves rolled hard

Inside the squall

The boat was scarred

The old Sea Dog Just jumped like a flea

That went on a trip, to the sea

Like a boxer in the ring

The sweet old dog

He started to sing

He lets out a plaintive howl

One would think he was an owl

He misbehaved

He wagged his tail

When we jumped into the boat

We thought it would stay afloat

At that lagoon

Where I so loved to sleep

And liked to sing

I played a tune

And wore the ring

I felt how much I love

My Darling

A reverse poem

My Darling

I felt how much I love

And wore the ring

I played a tune

And liked to sing

Where I so loved to sleep

At that lagoon

We thought it would stay afloat

When we jumped into the boat

He wagged his tail

He misbehaved

One would think he was an owl

He lets out a plaintive howl

The sweet old dog started to sing

Like a boxer in the ring

That went on a trip, to the sea

The old Sea Dog Jumped like a flea

The boat was scarred

Inside the squall

The waves rolled hard

The boat rose tall

They “ringed” the boat

The sharks that prowled

The windblown sail

The storm howled

The Gail did wail

The weight-adjusted

The sloping poise

The scream, the gusts

The eerie noise

The sound, the thrust

The clanking rust

The turning keel

The dream seemed real

The way it felt

Twas so extreme

The door, the bell

Who rings so late?

During the rain

Oh, it was the ring!

Bonus for our readers

My co-author, Harper Rivz, who helped me with this poem, additionally made a charming video dedicated to this poem. You can watch it on his page.
