It Was FunTo Explore The Streets Of Berkeley

Travel is fun with a friend

It was fun to walk in the streets of Berkeley.

I love to walk in a town to see the place and learn more about it. Often you meet people over there and your day is made as you learn about the culture there.

This summer, I spent a month in the USA. My son lives near the Albany hills close to Berkeley where it is very picturesque.

There are Eucalyptus trees, a trek to walk, the bulb or the waterfront, and a lovely street full of flowers and fruits to walk in.

I did enjoy it a lot. However, my son was very busy attending to his office work, family, and home matters and he did not have the time to walk on the streets with me though no complaints he took me out a lot and also looked after me extremely well.

He was supportive and would get me Uber and tell me the place to go like the Art Museum and other places and I would just go and see the things where he could not take me.

One fine day, one of my American friends who I had never met physically but I wrote some articles in her publication became a good phone friend. She lived in Oregon State in the USA.

I told her I was going to be in California near SanFransisco (SFO) for about a month. Dr. Gabriella Korosi promised me that she would visit me. She was suffering from Covid so her visiting me was conditional to her health recovery from it.

Gabriella flew to SFO, took the Bart (local train) from the airport, and came home.

I was so overjoyed. I am so thankful to her for having come all the way to see me.

The three days were full of fun.

We walked down the streets of Berkeley.

My son dropped us to Berkeley University. We had the time of our lives chatting with the students. We went to the Botanical Gardens on the university bus.

There were mountains of cacti. We saw the Japanese Garden. We saw lily ponds and then we saw a beautiful forest. We sang along to the place and loved it there. Then we sat and meditated.

When we spent enough time here we took the university bus and went back to the university.

We walked and walked and had so much fun chatting with each other. I am grateful to the Almighty that I had so much fun with Gabriella.

We walked on the streets. We became hungry and asked for directions to go and eat somewhere.

On the way, we found beautiful flowers. We started discussing about them and for some time forgot that we were hungry.

These orange flowers were amazing. We were fascinated with the shape of the petals and their brilliant color.

Another time we walked and found a wonderful French restaurant. I must have had the best crepes that I ever had.

This lovely scenery was on the wall of the restaurant where we were transported to Paris. The restaurant owner was pleased to click a picture of Gabriella and me.

We took a picture of the restaurant when we came out of the restaurant. I will always remember how kind the owner was who chatted with us and told us a few stories of Berkeley.

While walking again we came across more flowers. Berkeley is known for its lovely plants and flowers.

Look at the lovely pink Hibiscus. There were so many of them and they were healthy and had a love size too.

We then went out and walked around again and reached a place where there were many shops. We looked for a coffee place. We found some coffee places but then loved this place where there was the big globe.

We decided to have our tea or coffee at the Paris Baguet with a slice of cake to celebrate our walks.

While we were sitting inside and talking to several people inside the Cafe. I suddenly saw something very interesting outside the cafe through the glass door.

It was a masterpiece. A sculpture that was so magnificent. We examined it carefully. It was hard to take a picture as it was so big. It was placed in such a manner that we even found it difficult to find out what it represented and what was material used in making it. It had been protected in a glass cabin. Luck had brought us to this piece of art that we admired.

We tried our best to find out. We met the staff working there but they did not know except that it was a marvel. It looked like a woman that turned her head backward and raised her hands. The right arm was at a slight incline upwards but the left arm and hand were pointing upwards.

It could be a sign of freedom or happiness to be free to do what she likes.

We looked at it intently and then we got a message that our Uber left because it could not find us at the right pick-up place.

We waited for the next cab that we booked again taking time to look at more flowers.

Gabriella nudged me that we would lose the second cab if we kept looking at plants and forgetting that we existed and we had walked a lot. It was time to get back home.

We would see other things as there were two more days to explore more streets.

This is how we spent time each day. We tried organic cashew ice cream, the most wonderful coffees, the fruit trees, and the flowers.

We plucked the fruit and ate it on the streets itself.

Could I have had a better time than this? Travel was great fun! I am grateful to dear Dr. Gabriella Korosi for making my travel so much fun. I would never be able to explore the streets alone and have fun the way we did during those days.

I remember those days with a lot of fondness. Such a lovely gesture of coming all the way from Oregon to meet me near SanFrancisco. It was commendable.

Thank you, dear Dr. Gabriella Korosi. I appreciate your kind gesture in spending time with me and exploring the streets of Berkeley.

Thanks, Anne Bonfert and JoAnn Ryan for the November challenge of thankfulness while traveling.
