The prompt for today — Your first crush

It was destiny. Kurt J. and I were meant to be together.

We had just moved to a new town and started attending a new church. Kurt J. was the pastor’s son. Oh, was he the most handsome boy in the whole wide world. And he was my age.

It was meant to be!

He even played on the football team. Quarterback, if my memory is holding true.

There was only one small, tiny glitch in this big plan with my future forever partner in life.

He didn’t know I existed.

Until one day, it all changed.

I walked home from school that day a foot off the ground. I don’t think my feet ever touched the earth the entire walk home from junior high.

My life had changed.

Kurt did know I was alive.

We’d passed each other in the hall that day. It’s been fifty years since this momentous occasion occurred. I can still see the junior high buildings surrounding us. I still recall the feelings that swept over me when he spoke.

He walked by me, and as he passed, he uttered two words that filled my heart with joy.

He said………

“Hi, Trisha.”

Unfortunately — that’s where this story ends. It never went any further than that. But my heart healed and I went on to love again.

Thanks to Keeley Schroder for putting out this Valentine’s Day challenge.
