It Is Not About The Winning

The journey towards winning matters more.

Some years ago I was training for my martial arts black belt. I would visualize wearing the belt and it couldn’t come quickly enough. I had some harsh lessons to learn in the time I was working towards that belt. Don’t be in a rush Learn the moves you need to make before you execute them. I did a jump-flying sidekick before I learned the how-to. This one bad move set me back a year due to tearing the cruciate ligament in my knee. Choose your battles I am small sized person so I had to learn over time to dodge and weave my opponents to avoid being knocked out. The same principle applies to reaching your goals.

Winning an award

It feels good to win an award when your hard work and efforts pay off. There is a delicious sense of accomplishment when you reach the finish line of what you were trying so hard to achieve.

Then what?

The award sits on display somewhere you can proudly admire it. Eventually, you stop noticing it as it sits there collecting dust. What is there to reach for now?

I want to share this piece by Betterment Pill to motivate you back on track.

Accomplishment

To feel accomplished is more of a feeling in the mind or mentality. It doesn’t last for long; the shine of the award eventually wears off.

Realize that the journey towards the goal was a notable accomplishment than the end result.

There is no need to be in a rush to reach the destination. We often make far more effort in the journey towards our goals than when we have attained them.

Receiving an award for accomplishment is simultaneously a proud and humbling moment.

The Destination

Recognize that the most valuable lessons learned were in the journey along the way. These are skills you need to propel you further toward your next achievement.

The destination is never final

Gratitude

This is a reminder to be grateful to those that supported you, cheered you on, and believed in you. Without these people, success is not possible. It is also wise to be grateful to those that attempted to tear you down or used you for their gain. Everyone teaches us valuable lessons about growth.

Be humble in success, and enjoy the moment, for it is fleeting

Appreciate the fruits of your work; guide others that also value and look up to you. Walk others in their direction to grow. We are not looking for followers on our path.

Never give the fruit away

Not everyone will respect your hard work and journey to success. Give the fruits away, and your achievements and resources diminish. The greedy are blind; there will always be a person who will want to take the fruit of your hard work for themselves.

Allow others to enjoy the fruit of your success when they invest in the fruiting of your tree.

Thank you for taking the time to read and appreciate my work. I would love to hear in the comments about a time you won an award for your efforts.
