Well, this article is dedicated to my children, I am going to ask you some useless questions and provide you (via google) with the answers, and even though this will be a waste of time, I am sure you will read on!
Who named the days of the week?
The names of the days of the week are based on a combination of ancient planetary and mythological influences.
In many cultures, including the ancient Greeks and Romans, the days of the week were named after celestial bodies such as the sun, moon, and planets.
The English names for the days of the week are derived from these planetary names, passed down through various languages and cultures over time.
The English names of the days of the week are:
- Monday (Moon day)
- Tuesday (Tiw’s day, named after the Norse god of war)
- Wednesday (Woden’s day, named after the Norse god Odin)
- Thursday (Thor’s day, named after the Norse god of thunder)
- Friday (Freya’s day, named after the Norse goddess of love and fertility)
- Saturday (Saturn’s day, named after the Roman god of agriculture)
- Sunday (Sun day)
How much salt is in the sea?
The concentration of salt in seawater varies depending on factors such as location, depth, and climate. On average, seawater contains about 35 grams of salt per litre (or about 3.5% salt by weight).
It’s important to note that the salt in seawater is not just table salt (sodium chloride) but also includes other dissolved minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium.
These minerals are important for many marine organisms and processes, and the overall salt content of the ocean plays a critical role in regulating the Earth’s climate and supporting life on our planet.
The longest town name in the world is
Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu, which is a hill located in New Zealand.
This Maori name comprises 85 characters and roughly translates to “the place where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed, and swallowed mountains, known as the land-eater, played his flute to his loved one”.
I have to mention the country I am from “Wales.”
The longest town name in Wales, and one of the longest in the world, is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. This name comprises 58 characters and is located on the island of Anglesey in North Wales.
The King of Hearts is the only king in a deck of cards without a moustache.
This statement is not entirely accurate. While it is true that the King of Hearts in a standard deck of playing cards is often depicted without a moustache, this is not always the case.
Different decks of playing cards may have different designs and variations in the appearance of the court cards, including the Kings. In some decks, the King of Hearts may be depicted with a small moustache or other facial hair. In others, he may be without any facial hair.
You can’t lick your own elbow.
It is difficult, if not impossible, for most people to lick their own elbow. This is because the length of the average human tongue is not long enough to reach the elbow. Additionally, the elbow joint is located in a position that makes it difficult to bring the tongue close enough to lick it.
While a few people have been able to lick their own elbows, it is a rare feat and requires exceptional flexibility and tongue length. However, for the vast majority of people, it is not possible to lick their own elbow.
Bears poo during hibernation
During hibernation, bears experience a decrease in their metabolic rate, body temperature, and other physiological processes. As a result, their digestive system slows down, and they stop eating and drinking altogether.
During this time, bears may still produce small amounts of faeces and urine, but their bodies typically reabsorb these waste products rather than expel them. This process helps bears to conserve energy and water during hibernation.
When bears emerge from hibernation in the spring, they may experience a period of increased activity and appetite as their bodies readjust to normal metabolic rates and food availability. During this time, they may produce large quantities of faeces and urine to rid themselves of waste products that accumulate during hibernation.
It is impossible to tickle yourself.
It is commonly believed that it is impossible to tickle oneself, and to some extent, this is true.
Tickle is a sensation produced when the skin is touched lightly, activating the nerve endings responsible for detecting touch.
When someone else tickles us, the sensation is unexpected, and we may feel a loss of control, leading to laughter.
However, when we try to tickle ourselves, our brain is aware of the action before it happens and knows what to expect.
This foreknowledge reduces the element of surprise and the sensation of loss of control, which are important factors in tickling.
Therefore, while creating a sensation similar to tickling by touching oneself is possible, it is not usually as intense as the sensation produced by someone else tickling us.
Flamingos can only eat with their heads upside down.
While it is a common belief that flamingos can only eat with their heads upside down, this is not entirely accurate.
Flamingos are known for their unique feeding behaviour. They dip their long necks into the water and filter out small crustaceans and other aquatic organisms using their specialized beaks.
While it is true that flamingos typically hold their heads upside down while feeding, this is not the only way they can eat. Flamingos can adjust the angle of their necks to reach their food, and they can also use their beaks to scoop food from the surface of the water or mud.
