It Doesn’t Matter Who is to Blame.
Something happened to you. It isn’t your fault, but it happened, and it wrecked something.
Maybe it wrecked your sense of self. Maybe it wrecked your relationship. Maybe it wrecked a fun night, or got in the way of time to relax, or made you miss something that’s truly important to you.
The first thing you might do, is find someone to blame. It’s my friend’s fault for showing up late. It’s my spouse’s fault for leaving too many responsibilities to me. It’s my boss’s fault for giving me too much work…
Stop pointing the blame. It doesn’t serve you.
“It is vain to ruminate upon, or reflect upon, the authors or causes of our present misfortunes. We should rather exert ourselves…” — George Washington
George Washington, a Stoic in his own right, once stated that it is vain to think about the causes of things that are wrong currently. It doesn’t matter who is to blame, this new set of circumstances is set, and you have to deal with it in one way or another. Don’t continue to point blame, but rather exert yourself, take action, do something that targets the issue and makes it better. Keep going until it is fully dealt with, and then move on.
