It Begins Today…

Yes, this is likely the most important election for Americans in the modern era. This is a fact.

Though it will take a lot more than a new President to heal the wounds in this nation, four more years of crises after crises, scandal after scandal, and seemingly no end to our deepening animosity towards one another will be the end of the union.

We all feel the weight of it. Many good writers here on Medium have spoken on this election's gravitas and possible outcomes, both good and nightmarish. I acknowledge that it’s easy to write and pontificate about political grievances, but much harder to actually stand for change. But today is that day. Democracy is not a given.

Take charge. Vote. Be aware. Be alive. Be grateful, not hateful.

Remember that we are not binary, and we share a commonality: the finitude of the human condition.
