It ALSO begins today

America needs a new soul. One that is compassionate, more alive, loving, inclusive, yet more discerning, less distracted by constant buzzing from out-of-control social media platforms.

There’s no easy pathway for the emergence of this new soul. But we can gander at a roadmap. Polarization will not be easy to overcome. Yet we must start somewhere.

For a starting point, we have to stop pathologizing voting preference. This cuts down both sides of the aisle. I admittedly fall into this trap from time to time. The reality of political left and political right won’t go away. We have to compromise at times and work with each other.

Trumpism has to go away, that is true. Also true, far-reaching elements of the cultural left that border on illiberalism also have to be exorcised. These will not be easy undertakings. We have to contend with ideas, not hate each other for having ideas that are different.

WE MUST RE-LEARN CIVILITY. PERIOD.

Democracy, I’ve said before, is never a given. It’s work. Often hard work. And that work begins now.
