Israel and Hamas (Gaza’s Military Leadership) and an Example of the Blindness of Polarity Consciousness

Civilians are often innocent

My thoughts and prayers go out to all the innocents in both Israel and Gaza and any others who may get injured or kidnapped or die from a cause at the hands of others or who will live in fear or trauma from these or related events.

I write this story as an attempt at a lesson about or at least to call your attention to binary thinking and polarity consciousness and the failures of assumptions therefrom. My friend Henya Drescher has posted two pieces from Tel Aviv since the unprecedented and horrific attacks by Hamas began yesterday.

In each, I expressed my hopes for her and her family’s safety and that all the innocents on both sides were in my thoughts. For that, an ignorant reader accused me of being a Nazi in a past life (making fun of my factual statements in my profile that this is my 17,043th human incarnation) and a Hamas sympathizer.

When I replied that I am Jewish, the attacks escalated — essentially saying that I am Israel’s worst enemy, and using ad hominem attack words that might cost this account their standing — I did report the account — it might have reported me too.

In all my comments in the threads, I remained neutral politically. Another commenter in Henya’s pieces kept assessing the political situation. I commented to this person that this is not the time for political science posts.

My point is that the person who attacked me labeled me because of his or her inability to perceive nuance — well my friends, the world is not black and white — it is all shades of grey.

While I expressed no position in the conflict, it labeled me as anti-Israeli and a Nazi. I pointed out that this person has no legitimate basis for labeling me as such, and said I am in fact the opposite of how it labeled me, which if it bothered to read as I suggested my Yesterday Jews Around the World Observed Yom Hashoah, This annual day of remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust is observed by Jewish communities worldwide — I decided yesterday to cast light upon the dark specter of antisemitism on this platform, it would realize. It refused to read the story and again attacked me.

Based upon my experience on Medium, I expected that Henya’s pieces would be trolled by those who wrongly accuse Israel of being an apartheid state — maybe her essays have been and she has hidden their comments.

It saddens me that my apolitical and neutral expressions of sympathy for all innocents were perceived as alignment with the aggressors who maintain power through hatred and want to drive every Jewish Israeli into the sea.
