Is Your Writer’s Block a Hidden Path to Mindful Creativity?
Find out how

We all have those days. Days when it seems impossible to write anything on that blank page. Even now that we have AI to inspire us, sometimes it doesn’t seem to be enough.
Of course, you can choose to simply not write on such a day. But many of us have a certain rule in our heads about consistency, so I can very well imagine that you still want to write. On such days, there’s only one thing to do, in my opinion: think about your day.
The Power of Conscious Living in Writing
Maybe you think that this day is just like ‘usual’. I often feel that way too, but mostly when I allow myself to live on autopilot. When I try to live as consciously as possible in the ‘now’ from the moment I get out of bed, my day suddenly becomes very different from ‘usual’ — I’m more aware of the things that are happening.
Thanks to the calmness that comes with it, I’m able to better recall what I experienced. Because I was there ‘consciously’, I’ve been able to focus my attention mostly on the experience itself.
You can compare it with paying close attention during class. If you pay attention, you will remember it a lot better, right? That leads to the simple fact that it helps with writing.
If I consciously experience my day, suddenly the ‘ordinary’ day turns into a day in which I experience quite a lot. You feel more, think more, and pause more often to appreciate the little things.
Those small, miraculous moments with your loved ones, pets, or colleagues. How good your coffee truly tastes, the fresh air outside, or how beautiful and detailed that little leaf you saw in your front yard is. Enough to write about!
How Gratitude and Self-Awareness Enhance Writing
If you’re thinking about your day, you can also think about what went well or wrong, or what you’re grateful for. It might sound cliché, but apart from the fact that you become aware of such things, it’s of course also great writing material.
Those experiences are not only educational and possibly inspiring for you, but also for someone else. Maybe the person reading it will also become more aware of the things they should be grateful for in life.
Perhaps you motivate the other person to think about what went well or wrong during the day. Who knows what insights they will come to thanks to you — because you were willing to share your experiences. Win-win situation, right?
Creativity Through Present Moment Awareness
Sometimes it also helps to retreat into the NOW and let your thoughts wander. The NOW is also part of your day. There is nothing else. The past is already gone and the future is yet to come.
So, the ‘now’ is a wonderful moment to experience mental freedom. This might not seem easy at first glance, but great things can happen if you push yourself just a little to get over your mental barrier.
Just start writing.
It doesn’t matter what you jot down. Write as if no one is watching, because in most cases, no one is, right? At least, I always write alone. And sometimes that leads to the most beautiful pieces.
Life is so diverse and special — especially from your perspective. Forget writer’s block. There is always something to write about…
