Medium, as it existed from 2017 to 2022, saw some writers riding an incredible wave, with some claiming to earn almost $10k a month.

It made rockstars out of the likes of Tim Denning and Ayodeji Awosika. But now, the range is more like $1–$2k, and very few can attain that.

Fortunately for me, I don’t write on Medium solely for the money.

I’m here for the connections and self-growth. Writing, after all, is self-improvement in disguise.

However, with the earning potential on Medium, there are a plethora of bad actors who are engaged in a form of “growth hacking” as CEO Tony Stubblebine aptly puts it.

It appears Medium is ramping up its action and cleaning up bots, those who breach the Terms of Service (TOS), and bad actors.

Unfortunately in the last two days, this has resulted in some of my favourite writers on Medium vanishing without a trace. Their absence saddens me, as I deeply appreciate their work.

I don’t understand!!! I’m very interested to know what on earth is going on, there must be an explanation.

Jaysus, I can’t help but wonder if I’ll be next?!

So I’ve decided to download all my data. As I work in technology, I’m going to come up with a way to schedule a daily download of my data and upload it to my Google Drive.

For now, though here are the instructions on how to manually download your data, including all your stories from Medium.

1. Open the Medium app and navigate to Settings -> Security and apps.

Choose the download your information option.

2. You should get an email from Medium shortly with a link to download

Choose the download my archive option.

Note: The link might open within the app without immediate download. If this happens, tap the three dots (ellipsis) in the top right corner and select Open in Chrome. This should initiate the download.

And voila! It will download on your phone. I then uploaded this to my preferred cloud storage provider, Google Drive.

Here’s hoping for a swift resolution to this situation. I truly value the wonderful community here on Medium.

Thanks for reading!
