Is Your Job Just The Big Fat LIE You Keep Telling Yourself?

(Are you too busy making a living to have a LIFE?)

There’s a version of life that’s not so relentless.

It took me far too many long years in soul sucking corporate life to realize that, followed by a good few years working in a business I created that one day left me laying naked on the floor with a suspected heart attack.

More of that later, but for now, tell me something.

Did you actually decide one day to do what you now do for a living? Or did you just kind of fall into it?

For me, it was definitely the latter.

After coming out of the R.A.F, I just sort of drifted into sales and then on into sales management and then to senior management in good old corporate life.

You know the sort of thing, right? Leaving for work before the kids are awake and arriving home after flying a desk all day, with the kids having already gone to bed. Missing their childhood pretty much.

This is the trap that literally millions of us fall into. We call it LIFE.

But it’s not life is it? At least not one that you imagined when you set out into the big wide world of making a living.

You didn’t plan for the drudgery, the stress and the overwhelm did you?

You didn’t want to end up in a job where you are just going through the motions. With no real fulfillment. No job satisfaction and not even any real job security.

See, that’s the problem here. We are indoctrinated right from the start to believe that we need to get out there and secure a job that will pay the bills and give us security.

But that’s only part of the story isn’t it? Nobody even mentioned being able to be happy in your work. Being fulfilled and having real job satisfaction.

We just sort of blunder headlong into the abyss of a mediocre working life, don’t we? And because our working life takes up the main bulk of the available time in our life, that mediocre thing seeps into our personal life as well.

Because we accept our lot as being the norm. Something everyone has to endure as ‘just the way it is’.

We think we’ve got all the time we need…. until we haven’t.

Most people are so busy just earning a living and ‘going through the motions’ of life, to ever just stop, pause, take a breath and seriously THINK about what we would actually like to do with our lives from this point forward.

Despite happiness, contentment and fulfillment being what most of us are striving for, we don’t even pay it lip service. We never say, ‘hang on a minute here, what is it that I could be doing that would make me content and happy, while at the same time being true to myself?

Most people never actually take the time to sit down and think about creating a ‘job escape’ plan. No. Too busy earning a living to do that.

Most people, work for someone else, (making someone else wealthy) and settle for two days out of seven to have as their own every week in order to try to recuperate from the grind.

Most people settle for having just four or five weeks of vacation downtime out of a full year.

Most people, when on their vacation have thoughts like, ‘Oh, I love this place. It’s beautiful. I could live here for sure’, then they go home and do nothing at all about that feeling.

Here’s a gentle hint:- Don’t be like most people!

Don’t wait for retirement to be able to grab a few years of real happiness and contentment.

So, what about you? Let’s talk about you.

Have you started planning your escape route yet? Even taken the time to stop and give it some real thought?

Most people haven’t.

Most people never do.

Which is why most people settle for living lives of mediocrity and quiet desperation and are just ‘getting by’ in life. Going through the motions and doing the same old thing with their lives, day in and day out.

Coasting.

Not really knowing what else they could be doing, if they’re honest.

Just knowing that… ‘There must be more to life than this!’

They do know that they are not really doing something they want to be doing though. They know they are not being true to themselves and as a result they are not living a life that makes them happy, stress free and fulfilled.

Again… Don’t be like most people!

Don’t continue telling yourself the lie that you just have to settle for the job you’ve got, because even though it makes you feel like your just drifting, it pays the bills.

It is completely realistic to think differently instead.

There are a multitude of ways you can earn a living that also pays the bills, while at the same time allowing you to look forward to your day, because you are doing something that you actually enjoy. Something you love doing. Something that gives you the fulfillment and contentment in life that you deserve.

But it won’t happen if you never even start thinking about your own personal ‘Job Escape’ plan, will it?

So book a set piece of ‘YOU’ time in your diary right now. Block that time out and go somewhere where you can be alone with your thoughts. Take a notepad and pen and make a start on plotting and planning your own ‘Job Escape’ plan!
