Is TikTok’s China’s Way of Supporting The Palestinian Cause?

Xi Jingping has been in the news lately.

But not for reasons you think.

The leader of the Chinese Communist Party rolled in to see the senile octogenarian — Joe Biden—a few days ago and also stopped by in San Francisco to see the gatekeepers of the tech world too.

In a speech which has gone viral several times over, Xi Jingping spoke of never betting against the United States and not interfering in its domestic affairs.

The speech touched all the right buttons and was meant to be the very first step in the rapprochement between the helmsmen of the largest economies in the world.

But I wasn’t buying the fine words of the wily old Chairman Xi ; not for a nanosecond.

Xi Jingping was never going to do what Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has done in denouncing Israel’s violence by standing with the Palestinians, but be rest assured that he has been working overtime in using China’s soft power to tip the scales in Palestine’s favour.

China’s soft power?

Yes indeed.

Unlike the United States or the United Kingdom for that matter, the Chinese Communist Party has a major say in the output of their tech companies and those who have dared to step out of line in times past, were taught a serious lesson.

Ask Jack Ma of Alibaba.

The eccentric entrepreneur thought that he was insulated from the reach of the CCP, because he had amassed a huge fortune and he was feted by the west. The very minute he announced that he was going to take his company public, the state simply reminded him of who has the biggest reach in the world’s second most populous nation.

And the CCP’s extraordinary reach is having seismic global ramifications.

How I hear you ask?

TikTok.

This short video hosting service has changed the game forever.

Unlike its American counterpart — Twitter and Instagram — where an ordinary feed can take the longest time to get traction, TikTok’s algorithms travel at the speed of light, thus guaranteeing immediate engagement.

Again, I hear you ask what has this got to do with what’s going on in the world?

Everything.

The Chinese platform has been the biggest game changer since the Israeli government decided to commit the most egregious war crimes in Gaza.

Through its all powerful mechanism, we have been given a front row seat and the global media platforms —the BBC and CNN, which have exceptional in the past at spewing untruths and propaganda in times past, have had to play second fiddle.

And this is why it is no hyperbole to state that the presence of TikTok has been the single biggest reason why millions of people have been protesting in cities across the US, UK, Canada and the European Union.

Believe me, this is unchartered territory and this hasn’t gone unnoticed by the perpetrators of violence — the IDF and their allies — ADL.

The Israeli government is seriously concerned by this development and these concerns are exacerbated by the fact that it is coming from China.

And this is the view in Washington, too.

Neither America nor Israel can afford to go to war on the People’s Republic and this was at the heart of the meeting between the septuagenarian and octogenarian heads of state, earlier this week.

So what happens next, are we going to see less TikTok activity moving forward?

No.

China is fighting a proxy war with the west and its military are the billions of people armed with an app on a smart phone.

PRC has definitely found its sweet spot and it is going to press ahead to spread its tentacles, across the world.

And you can be rest assured that TikTok will continue to play its part in giving us an unvarnished view of what’s really going on in Gaza.

And this is precisely why the American government is intent on banning this social media platform altogether.

For those who have made it this far, you must know that China isn’t a force for good.

Its treatment of Uyghur Muslims is as bad as anything that we have seen from the Israeli government and it has taken a very dim view of those who tried to shed light on their crimes.

The one thing it will never do is criticise the west, knowing fully well that it has a very long rap sheet too.

But that shouldn’t diminish its role in exposing the war crimes of the Israeli government.

This is my view, what’s yours?
