Is this end of the United States? America’s ‘Pluto return’

The United States is in the midst of a revolution, not just culturally or politically, but astrologically and cosmically too.

You only have to look at the natal chart for the United States of America to see that something fairly seismic is going on at the moment.

What’s a natal chart I hear you say?

A natal chart is like a snapshot of the sky taken at the moment of birth that can be used to predict key events throughout a person’s lifetime. Astrologers use them primarily for individuals but, when set up correctly, a natal chart can also be utilised to forecast major shifts, changes and occurrences in the life of a nation.

The natal chart for the United States of America is set to the 4th of July 1776 at 5.10pm in Philadelphia, capturing a snapshot of the stars at the time of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Astrologically at that time, Pluto was in the final stages of Capricorn, about to move into Aquarius. Pluto symbolises regeneration, transformation, trauma, death and rebirth. As it moved from Capricorn, associated with responsibility and structure, towards Aquarius, the sign of truth, freedom, human rights and the people, it ushered in a time of revolution as a number of states in North America demanded independence from the oppressive British establishment by breaking away and forming what eventually became the United States.

Now, after 250 years, for the very first time since the United States was born, Pluto has returned to where it was when the Declaration of Independence was signed, and like clock-work, once again revolution is in the air.

Throughout the centuries, the natal chart for the United States has proven to be alarmingly accurate at predicting times of prosperity and times of turbulence for what has become the most powerful nation in the world.

On September 11 in 2001, when terrorists flew two commercial planes into the Twin Towers in New York, Pluto was in Sagittarius, and Saturn was in Gemini. Pluto symbolises death and trauma and Sagittarius is often associated with flight, while Saturn symbolises buildings, and Gemini is the twins.

The astrology really is always right on the money, and when read properly, a nation’s natal chart can really be a highly accurate harbinger of things to come, which is why we should all be ready for what comes next as the United States traverses this unprecedented period known as “Pluto Return”.

As humans, we will never experience a Pluto return in our own chart, unless of course we live to be 248 years old (that’s how long Pluto’s orbit is). But for long-standing nations, a Pluto return has often resulted in a rise of power and the fall of empires.

So, that’s a big yikes for the United States.

But not every nation collapses during a Pluto return.

England survived three Pluto returns — during the Great Famine of 1315, at the start of the Elizabethan era and a golden age of British literature, and during the formal creation of the United Kingdom in 1801.

The Roman Empire survived its first Pluto return during the years 218 and 220 AD, a period marked by divisive leaders, scandal, death, and unstable transfers of power. It fared less well on Pluto’s second return which happened between 461 and 468 AD, just eight years before the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD.

So, back to a big yikes for America.

Officially, the United States began its Pluto Return on the 2nd of February 2022.

That’s right — 02/02/2022.

That’s a helluva lot of two’s, which takes on extra significance when you consider that the number two in numerology often represents instability.

Anyone in the United States been feeling unstable lately? Raise your hands.

Alright, you can all put them down now.

Essentially, Pluto represents the destruction of old foundations so that you can replace those foundations with new ones. During a Pluto return, any behavioural patterns that a country has developed over the past 250 years will be challenged and potentially overturned. Pluto has a way of unearthing all the uncomfortable truths that have long been buried and bringing to the fore all that needs to change.

One could argue that the United States began feeling the effects of Pluto’s return long before 2022.

Unrest began brewing as far back as September 11 in 2001, heightening with 2008’s Global Financial Crisis, and escalating with the divisive 2016 presidential election that saw Donald Trump take up residence in the Whitehouse. In 2020, the pandemic caused the economy to contract, and while the number of millionaires in the world jumped by 5.2million that year, nearly 1.2million Americans were claiming unemployment benefits. While Americans suffer the consequences of late stage capitalism, we can expect to see the country undergo a major economic rebirth as the discomfort and intensity of Pluto’s return creates the desire among its people to break down a whole range of established systems and structures.

This unprecedented period is going to raise questions about who and what the United States is, how it has evolved and what it now stands for. It will raise questions about the constitution, legality, politics, values, and even geography. We may very well see some states break away from the union and the geographic map of the United States significantly change as well.

We are now almost two years into America’s tumultuous Pluto return, and the energy continues to tip towards revolution even more so now that Pluto has made its way into Aquarius again for the first time in two and a half centuries.

Pluto settled into the Aquarian sign of the people on the 20th of January 2024 just prior to the full moon on the 25th. The full moon rose in Leo (the sign of sovereignty) whilst conjunct the north node in the birth chart for the United States, shining a light on the nation’s path for growth. The Moon was opposing Pluto but also opposite the Sun, which was conjunct Pluto, bringing up issues round power, control, human rights, freedom, truth, justice and revolution.

Then, just two days later, Uranus moved stationery direct which always magnifies its symbolism. Uranus is the sign of rebellion, earthquakes, eruptions and volatility.

So naturally, in America, the sparks started flying.

With the full moon shining brightly in the night sky, a standoff broke out in Texas between the federal US Border Patrol (USBP) and the Texas National Guard on the 27th of January 2024.

It would normally be the USBP guards that patrol the border, but earlier in January Texas authorised its National Guard to take over, militarising a golf course and a baseball field located on the border, stringing up barbed wire and fencing in an attempt to reduce the number of people illegally crossing the river and scrambling through the park as they reach the US.

The government in Washington DC has demanded Texas remove the fortifications, or it will, essentially putting two armed wings of the United States government in confrontation with one another.

In other words, civil war.

In other other words, Pluto return.

In the coming weeks we will see an electric and revolutionary new moon in Aquarius on the 9th of February, followed by Mars becoming conjunct with Pluto on the 13th of February, at which point the cosmic energy will be ripe for big demonstrations of top-down power with Mars energising the people’s movement towards freedom.

All eyes will be on Texas, not just because of the recent conflict, but also because, astrologically, Texas has long been predicted to be the ignition point for the dramatic changes we will see unfolding as American navigates its Pluto return.

Texas has been the crossing point for the last two major solar eclipses to cross America since 2017, and where eclipse paths fall, they indicate action and change, usually bringing that geographic location to public attention (and often into the news cycle).

There’s another total solar eclipse coming up on the 8th of April this year running north east to south west across America, with Texas once again being the crossing point.

It’s as if the heavens are repeatedly drawing a big red circle around Texas, indicating that it may well be the centre point for a major upheaval. With two opposing arms of the government currently at odds with one another in Texas, it certainly looks to be a fiery time of unrest we are moving into in 2024.

As the world watches to see how America will navigate the coming months, we can all be comforted in the knowledge that life operates in cycles, and that old things must always fall away before new and better things can emerge. For things to get better, there has to be a period of transition from what is to what could be, and often that transition is uncomfortable and unpleasant, but usually, it is for the best.

This period of human existence, particularly for everyone in the United States, is about releasing what we’ve been holding on to. It’s about staring into the darkness without blinking, safe in the knowledge that if you stare long enough, you will start to see something new.

And if history and the stars have anything to tell us, they would say that the something new emerging from the darkness will be bigger and better and more pleasing for us all.

But for now, hold on tight, United States.
