How effective is the keto diet?
Are you in need of losing weight, and need some options? You may want to consider one of the most talked about programs available. If you have heard about the Keto diet, this article hopes to give you some information to help you decide.
Essentially, the ketogenic diet focuses on high-fat, low-carbohydrate foods, to put the body in a state of ketosis. The idea is that the body produces ketones from fat stored to be used as energy, which is different from glucose which originates from eating carbohydrates.

Keto Testimonials
I checked my favourite site, Reddit, to look for folks who have been on the diet. One person has reported losing 40 lbs over 4 months! Another person lost 20 pounds in three months, and this person says she was happy with the progress.
Here’s an excerpt from one user:
I’m halfway to goal, down 40 pounds so far. I inserted a weight loss pause as I was having diet fatigue and wanted to learn how to just maintain ahead of getting to goal. I’ve been maintaining for 3 months now and I’m going to go back into weight loss mode after the new year.
I have anxiety and sensory issues. Both have been greatly improved on keto, but like someone else said, I have to be careful about staying hydrated and getting enough electrolytes or else my symptoms spike. The mental calmness kicked in after just a few days.
Reddit user, Whoopteedoodoo reported feeling better and experiencing no tense muscles after being on keto. Other aches and pains have also gone, this user reports.
An article in a medicine journal stresses that the keto diet could cause low blood pressure, kidney stones, constipation, nutrient deficiencies and an increased risk of heart disease. The article quotes dietician Mary Condon who says the diet is a quick fix and is not sustainable.
Health professionals say that before starting any diet do your research, and consult with your doctor, or dietician to ensure that the the keto diet works for your body.
I believe that eating in moderation and having a smaller portion size helps to reduce weight. I also skip the desserts — most of the time.
