Is the Content Creator even a Real Job?
Are you sure you want to be one of them?

In this era, there are still many people who question, is the content creator can be called a real job? Before answering that question, what does work really mean? There are many definitions on the Merriam-webster website but I take the one that is easiest to understand, “Job is the work that a person does regularly in order to earn money”.
Then why should the content creator be questioned as a job even though many people have earned enough money from it? As I observed perhaps they stick with some reasons below:
1. The job is still considered valid if we can answer where our office is and what the position is
Work is not just a way to make money, more than that, work is considered an identity. when we meet new people, we usually briefly explain who we are and the most common answers are “I’m a doctor at …”, or “I’m a general manager at …”, etc. This is also commonly used when there are certain interviews in formal or informal areas. While the content creator label is still not considered valid and prestigious enough to be mentioned as a full-time profession even though it is actually a very potential job.
2. Real job is considered as something that is financially secure
The daily routine of content creators is unstable and really full of surprises like a roller coaster. For some people, it is not considered a proper job because it cannot guarantee financial stability and security. Moreover, content creators need equipment that is quite pricey to produce good content. This reason also forms the notion that content creators are not jobs because we should do work to get paid and even get facilities from the office for such purposes. Even though content creators need certain equipment but actually all of that is not something that must be forced to have at the beginning. We can start with more affordable equipment that has the same function and then upgrade slowly over time.
3. Content creators are still considered an easy way to make money because of the luck factor
Indeed, there are many factors that affect the number of subscribers or the virality of content. Moreover, there is a lot of content whose content is not really serious instead, it tends to be humorous, pranks, but in fact content sometimes is more watched than content that is more educational or similar. That’s why many people still think this activity is not a valid job and only rely on luck not depending on skill. In fact, being a content creator is not as easy as it looks. there is a lot of research, brainstorming ideas, drafting, editing, finishing, and some other things that people don’t see but they actually require hard work, consistency, and the willingness to learn all the time.
4. There are no special qualifications to be a content creator
Everyone has the opportunity to become a content creator. There are no special qualifications or formal schools majoring in content creators, although there are already several countries that have majors related to social media. Work is not only about something serious because actually there is an entertainment field that has existed for a long time and its purpose is for entertainment. However, we need something light to balance the weight of our other daily routines. And someone who works in that field can still be considered a professional because even just making prank content still requires skill.
This statement continues when several regulations also do not accept content creators as job identities. There is a TikTok celebrity who earns above average compared to the average monthly salary of an employee in the area but always fails when trying to apply for a credit card because his income is considered unstable and secure. Several countries in Europe apply the same rules for stay visas. Many jobs such as video editor, design graphic, writer, social media manager at a specific company are still considered as real Jobs in society. The things are whether it becomes an employee, being an entrepreneur, or creating a content job as an individual is a real job with different benefits and drawbacks for each role.

A content creator was born It is indeed a new type of work so it takes time to be fully accepted by the community. I’m not going to discuss how much content creators earn here because I’m sure you’ve often heard of success stories and the good income of a content creator that’s why you’ve considered being one of them. So here I will break down the challenges that you will face before you finally before find “your time”
You have no life but you feel alive
Flexibility is one of the most desirable things that we want as content creators. But there is an invisible side about flexibility, especially when you level up as a professional. Every minute is working either just break down the idea, create some concept, take and retake, editing, improving that really time-consuming. Even when you’re taking a break and chill, it’s not uncommon for that moment to actually bring up a lot of ideas in your head that could potentially be great ideas for your content. The good news is you are alive because you love it. The reason behind successful content creators is mostly because they create all of that content by heart. Different from the office worker who already knew the benefit they receive every month, the content creator is a profession that requires patience and someone who doesn’t do it with heart mostly has given up before they are shine.
Whether you are in a very comfortable or not comfortable phase at all
I think this is another form of invisible flexibility. The results of earning become a content creator, either make you can live very comfortably or even completely struggle, especially in the early stages. It also applies in the terms of time. Usually, they either hustle so hard at times or completely take a break from work. If office workers have weekends and a stable salary, more content creators are faced with extreme points, either very convenient or very difficult.
Resilience skill
Actually, there is one skill that without you knowing you are an expert in that field after being a content creator. This is not about writing, designing, editing videos, or something like that but you will be an expert in resilience skills. Actually, this is one soft skill that is so needed in life, but a freelancer or content creator is more used to uncertainty so, they unconsciously trained well about it.
Bottom Line
Many people are tempted to become content creators because it is considered easy and makes a lot of money. But I hope you really have careful consideration before making a decision. There are many factors that you must consider whether in terms of time, savings, needs, etc. You can start making content creators as your side hustle at the beginning, then full-time there when you feel you are ready.
