Is Social Distancing Bringing People Together?
Grateful for the love in this time of fear
I opened my laptop up the other day and the screen was blank…For a moment, I was shook — what is going on?! What is happening to my computer?
I shouldn’t have been surprised. I will admit, I have a lot of tabs open and I haven’t been turning off my computer at night (I can feel the eye roll of my kids… from a distance… : ). But I digress…
I gathered myself and just restarted the computer. While I was waiting, the thought came to me — what if my computer still had a problem?! What if it didn’t work?
Then in my days of isolation, I would really be isolated!
Living alone with two cats (I pay the mortgage yet now I feel like I’m invading their space), I have only myself to talk to. And only so much to say. At times, I forget a thought…with no one here to remind me…
Yet when I sit in front of my computer, I am connected with so many. Through social media, and with time on my hands, I can reach out and virtually touch almost anyone. And they too are doing the same.
I’m connecting with those I see on a regular basis. And reconnecting with those I don’t. Some are local business acquaintances, or friends of friends that I also know. Included are the many groups that I belong to filled with people nationwide.
People I will once again see, and more that I will never meet.
We are sharing our days, bringing insight and wisdom from others we follow, laughing, even shedding some tears — all of us home alone, yet together.
What would it be like to be in isolation with only a TV and a radio?! I mentioned this to my son and he noted that the only radio he has is in his car which is not being used now. The only place I have a radio too, come to think of it.
Luckily this was only a fleeting thought and not reality.
Another place I am really feeling the love is in this community that Dr Mehmet Yildiz created, Illumination. I am grateful to be connecting with so many wonderful writers. Love felt through the claps, highlights, and comments…
…in this time of fear, love is strong and so appreciated!
