Is raising boys different from girls?
Setting aside the gender equality phrase, boys and girls are different.
This doesn’t mean in any phase that they are unequal or one of the genders is superior to the other one, but they are different in their own ways.
I was brought up in a girls’ home and now I am raising two boys. The theme is overall different. Boys have a different mindset. They behave and react differently to situations than we girls used to.
If you being a mom think, you can nurture your girls and boys in the same way you are utterly mistaken.
Here you will read my perspective on living with 2 mini men and a 30-year-old man (who behaves like a toddler at times).
Eating habits of a carnivore.
Boys like to eat meat.
In fact, they just like to eat meat.
Consuming flesh from morning to night sometimes makes me wonder what on earth vegetables and pulses are made for. Being an almost vegetarian, I hate to eat meat 3 times a day, but I have fallen prey of making meat 7 days a week.
Embedded with violence.
You must be thinking what kind of violence?
To clarify; my home looks like a roaring dinosaur den when my two boys are at home.
They love to play or roar like dinosaurs; they have guns and swords like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and an eye patch and skull like the famous Jack Sparrow.
Boys have a wild kind of energy which they can display even if they have a high-grade fever.
You won’t believe it; my house is filled with dinosaurs ranging from T-rex to Parasaurolophus, to Velociraptors to the dinosaurs ever discovered.
Contrary to girls, they sit quietly and nicely playing with their dolls and passing on sweet smiles upon asking a question.
Silent creatures in gatherings
These violent creatures suddenly transform into introverts while at a gathering.
If anyone tries to invade their privacy, they take a silent dig into their mobile screens and doom they are nowhere.
On the other hand, girls love to chatter and socialize.
According to stats: A boy gives 1.5 hours more than a girl on a smartphone daily
Emotional wreck
Opposite to the common belief, boys are more:
· Expressive
· Possessive
· Aggressive
Boys keep a stronghold of their family members and if some outsiders try to intrude they combat it with aggressiveness. They express their love and anger urgently as compared to girls.
I remember the first day when I dropped my elder son at school he was crying and repeating the oneliner “Mama I will miss you” to date, after one year he is still saying the same thing.
Same as the other boys in his class while girls are a treat to watch with colourful ponies and cherishing faces.
What great motor skills
No doubt boys have incredible motor skills.
Building blocks is one activity that enhances motor skills and creativity in young kids. Both of my kids at this young age come up with such impressive pieces that range between boats, ships, aeroplanes, guns, and whatnot.
Boys learn kicking, running, and somersaulting faster than their counterparts. While girls love to exhibit fine drawing, eating, and colouring abilities.
Incredible mental MATHS
Play with them in numerics and they will amaze you.
Play with them in lyrics they will amaze you.
But play with them in observation and maintaining eye contact, they will doom you!
Faulty ROM
Boys have explicit long-term memory but faulty short-term memory.
This you will observe mainly with your husband.
He will diligently tell you when you travel to that place, what mishap did take place and who was the saviour?
(Because obviously, he was the saviour)
But when you ask him to do the dishes, throw the garbage, or sterilize the bottles he will forget it like you have never said it!
Worst in organization
A man can never be a good organizer and I can vouch that!
But you will always be the blamed one when something goes missing.
Yesterday when I picked up my son from school his first sentence was: “Mama you did wrong today” I was like “What?”
You gave me a nugget in lunch today and it fell down.
So, ultimately it was my mistake that I gave him the nugget…
More importantly, boys don’t know the difference between a wet towel or a dried one, a wet commode seat and a dripping one.
Ahhh…
There are so many other things that I keep on counting…
But you know there is a certain beauty in these imperfections, it keeps life going.
Being a mom or wife, I never forget to show annoyance but, my life would be a complete void without these beautiful souls.
Kudos to you if you are a mother of a girl or a boy or both but you should realize this at the earliest;
Both of these genders are equivalent, not EQUAL.
