Summary

A concerned parent is struggling with their 17-year-old son's recent behavioral changes, including rebellious acts, drug use, and a belief that he is being attacked by demons, leading them to seek spiritual guidance and eventually commit him to a mental hospital.

Abstract

The parent of a 17-year-old boy is grappling with a sudden transformation in their child's behavior. The son, once agreeable, has begun to exhibit signs of rebellion such as smoking pot, stealing a car to visit his girlfriend, and getting suspended from school for drug use. The boy's relationship with his father has deteriorated, with the son exhibiting a newfound animosity and disrespect. Amidst this turmoil, the parent turns to prayer for clarity and support, hoping to discern a divine plan amidst the chaos. Despite their spiritual efforts, the situation escalates, culminating in the son's conviction that he is under demonic attack, which prompts his admission to a mental hospital. The parent, committed to sharing their experience, is documenting this journey in a multi-part story.

Opinions

  • The parent believes their son's behavior is exceptionally unusual and concerning, contrasting sharply with his previous demeanor.
  • There is a sense of bewilderment and helplessness as the parent tries to understand the drastic changes in their son's actions and attitudes.
  • The parent maintains that they and their partner are good, supportive, and "amazing" parents, despite their unconventional appearance.
  • The parent initially attributes the son's behavior to typical teenage rebellion but becomes increasingly concerned as the situation worsens.
  • The parent's reliance on prayer and spirituality is evident as a coping mechanism and a source of hope during this challenging time.
  • There is a hint of sarcasm and dark humor in the parent's recounting of events, particularly when mentioning the son's nonchalant attitude after being suspended for drug use at school.
  • The parent seems to be seeking understanding and solidarity from other parents or readers who might have gone through similar experiences.

Is My Son Possessed by the Devil

Or is he just a teenager? Part 2

My sweet, agreeable 17-year-old son has suddenly become sullen, smokes pot, and stole my car at 1 am to see his 15-year-old crush. He has a permit but not a license. He’s such a good boy he actually told me he did it.

When I tell him to never do that again, he agrees. Oh goodie, I've got my son back. Wrong!

His girlfriend steals her mom’s car to come to see him at 2 am. WTF is going on?

That’s not all. His dad has become the enemy, an animosity towards his dad I have never seen before. We are good supportive parents…weird parents, artsy parents. Don’t judge based on the way we look, no one is perfect:

Picture of his parents: His Dad and I

We’re amazing parents but our son talks back to us now…well mostly his Dad. He has never talked back to us before.

2 weeks later, he got suspended for smoking marijuana in the school’s bathroom. After we leave the principal office, he asks me if I think the principal is gonna smoke it or give him back his weed!

What?!?… Ok, no phone, no T.V for him.

Or is he just a teenager?

When shit hits the fan and I don’t know what to do I ALWAYS pray for help first. Right now, I began saying a prayer every day to see clearly the perfect plan for the divine design of our lives to manifest. I believe I will see the light.

I prayed but the shit got worse. They say it’s always darkest before the dawn.
