Is Mail-In Voting At Risk From Republicans?

Voting by mail is easy and efficient

The Republicans who were upset that Trump did not win reelection as President of the United States are trying to pass various laws regarding voting. They contend that the voting in the last election was not fair and just in several states where Trump lost. They are using voting by mail as a political ploy in which they are fighting.

Republicans down ballot won in most of those states, even though Trump did not.

Voting is a right and privilege for citizens of the United States. The people should not be kept from voting if they are legally allowed to vote. The issue of mail in voting was under fire since it was used more in the last election because of the coronavirus pandemic, which was in full force. It was safer for many people TO VOTE BY MAIL.

Mail-in voting has been used in Utah for almost ten years. Senator Mitt Romney has praised the way the mail-in voting has worked in Utah. As is well known, Utah is one of the most Republican states in the nation. Most of the elected officials are Republicans. They cannot be criticized for their manner of voting because it has been working effectively.

When I moved back to Utah near the end of 2018, I was pleased that Utah had mail in voting. I had been away from the state for thirteen years while living in Virginia. Mail in voting was very easy and convenient for me and my wife. It works very well and is easier for most senior citizens and younger voters. It is helpful to many and very efficient. They have had no major problems with voter fraud.

Utah had voted by mail introduced in 2013. It has proven to be convenient and cost-effective. It also increases voter turnout. Vote by mail allows the voters to do research on each candidate on their own time before they cast their vote.

The 2016 Presidential Election had about 25% of votes cast by mail. Most states had been looking to expand options to vote by mail because of the positive response. The vote by mail option was especially valuable during the pandemic, although Trump was against it.

Utah has the option to vote in person for those who desire to do so. Some people choose the traditional way of voting, but most prefer the mail in option. Mail in voting ballots may be dropped off in secure boxes for that purpose.

Trump’s campaign took many cases to court to fight against mail-in voting. They filed lawsuits in battleground states to oppose mail-in voting. Most of the states where he was fighting election results had Republican leaders who would not do his bidding to overturn the election results.

Then the MAGA people stormed the Capitol in Washington, D.C. on the day that the election was being certified. The insurrection occurred on January 6, 2021. Many people became criminals that day and were arrested.

Is mail in voting at risk because of the efforts of Republicans who continue to support Trump? It should not be. Politics can be contentious and divisive. Voting by mail should not be an issue.

Mail-in voting has proven to be the way of the future, and it makes sense.
