Summary

"Is It Too Much To Ask?" is a poem reflecting on the simple yet profound human desires for kindness, acceptance, honesty, and connection.

Abstract

The poem "Is It Too Much To Ask?" delves into the fundamental human yearnings for genuine connection and understanding. It poses a series of rhetorical questions that underscore the importance of unadulterated kindness, acceptance of one's flaws, and the need for honesty, even above love. The speaker implores for attention and presence, asking to be looked in the eyes rather than being ignored for a phone. Is it too much to ask for you to hold my hand just for a second of unadulterated kindness?

Is it too much to ask for you to accept me as I am flaws and all?

Is it too much ask for honesty above all else even love?

Is it too much to ask for you to look me in the eyes? No, up here not on your phone

Is it too much to ask for you to hold space for me and in turn I for you?

Is it too much to ask for something from you even when effort is not your strong suit?

Is it too much to ask for a conversation above an argument even when you are mad?

Is it too much to ask for these basic things in life that make us whole?

Is it too much to ask for kindness?
