A lot of people inevitably get lost in the process of dealing with life. They feel like they got on a path that has no escape route. They feel hopeless. The idea that it might be too late for them to change, it’s crushing their soul. But the reality of the matter is that it’s never too late to try to do something with your life.

A light to gaze upon

When I finished college, I couldn’t get a job in my field of expertise (Psychology) and I ended up working as a Customer Service Representative. It wasn’t the worst job, but it surely wasn’t what I wanted.

I could see that it slowly crushed my ambitions and who I was. I only thought about how I could get out of there. I hadn’t too many options and I started to think that it might be too late for me to try to do something about it.

I thought that choosing to follow a degree that I was interested in, was a mistake and I should’ve simply followed something that would have clear results. It didn’t help me land a job that I liked or even one that was paid well.

I was young but at the same time, I felt that it was too late to try something else, my friends around me had good jobs, and a beautiful future awaiting them. On the other hand, I was struggling to pay my rent, and I dreaded every day that I would have to wake up to attend our work meetings.

Many days have passed, until one Saturday when I said enough is enough. My situation was miserable but at the same time, it provided comfort. That’s why I didn’t try to change it. Nonetheless, I could see that if things continue as they were, it would’ve meant completely losing who I was and simply becoming a dead man walking. An entity made of crushed dreams that severed its link to the meaning that can be found in life.

I quit my job, and with all the anxiety and fears that I had, I looked forward to the future for a better life. I gazed upon the light that once guided my life.

I started a Master’s degree and managed through a lot of attempts and failures, to get clients while freelancing. That along with the help of my family, helped me get back on track with my life.

I believe it’s never too late to try to change your life. Even if you don’t succeed, trying is a redemptive act for your soul. Your life will be colored once again by meaning and happiness.

You don’t need giant steps, you simply need to start moving. You will get more courageous as you go, and you will start to feel more determined to do more. Just decide what you want, and push towards that.
