One of my favorite love songs is almost a sarcastic piece called “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles.
It sticks in my head as both a great song and also a memorable video. Have you seen it? It’s fun! Watch:
This is a story that mesmerizes me and sparks my imagination. Sara plays her part as a mini-Sara inside a coin-operated jukebox.
When I watch the video, I see all these people come into the store and go into the jukebox and listen to the song with smiles on their faces.
It’s like mini-Sara plays for all these folks with the same love and fever as if it’s the first time she is playing it — for everyone.
Until one day, the store owner closes down and mini-Sara kind of tampers with the mechanics of the machine. That’s when mini-Sara sings to him anyway. Is that when ‘Love Song’ becomes a love song?
Love Song spent 19 weeks in the top ten and 41 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100. This is an amazing number, considering it was almost Sara’s rebellious answer to her label asking her to keep writing rather than recording in the studio.
Sara says the song changed her life. She kept getting a red light to go into the studio to record. She wrote the song and the label liked it too. Green light. The song changed her life and ours.
