Is Iowa’s 20 inches of Snow Worse Than the Blizzard of 1936?

Wind whipped against the house. A round oak table sat in the corner of Doc’s kitchen. A large bowl of tapioca pudding was in the center and a stack of bread waited.

Doc put a slice of bread in the toaster and told me the story of the blizzard of 1936.

Temperatures dropped to below zero for a month and as low as minus 33 degrees. Snow blocked the roads so coal trucks could not get through.

The governor of Iowa, Clyde Herring, issued an order that city and town transports be used to take coal from businesses and distribute to homes.

I saw a tear as Doc told me he burned furniture when he ran out of coal.

I was glad he still had the round oak table.

The 20 inches of snow we just received is not worse than the blizzard of 1936.
