Is Hustle Culture Toxic?
Can Hustling Too Hard Be Detrimental For Us?
The nature of hustling and charging full steam ahead has been glorified and is often looked at as something we should all be striving for.
Whilst it is always inspiring to have something to work towards, it can also be counterproductive to constantly feel like we have to just go go go all the time. It creates the unhealthy mindset that we cannot allow room for rest and relaxation.
We need to be able to cultivate a healthy balance between both hustle and rest. These are ways in which hustle culture can be toxic.
Killing The Divine Feminine Within Us
Hustle is masculine energy. We already live in a world dominated by masculine energy and the nature of hustle is no different.
Masculine energy at its best is about taking action, being assertive, and maintaining focus. But it also has its downsides. Such as being aggressive and overly domineering.
When we push too hard for this masculine energy we create an imbalance within us and in turn dampen our divine feminine. This represses our ability to be intuitive and compassionate.
In order to succeed we need equilibrium between both the divine masculine and feminine energy.
Encourages Burnout
When we are constantly hustling and taking action all the time, we don’t allow room for rest and recuperation as this feels like a waste of time and time is precious when it comes to productivity.
What we need to realize is that when we burn out, we cause even further obstruction of being productive. It takes us longer to recover from burnout and it takes a toll on both our physical and mental health.
Incorporating boundaries and regular rest times into our schedules allow us to have a break without feeling guilty and this enhances our productivity in the long run.
Enables Comparison And Competition
Often hustle culture will cause us to be in the mindset of seeing everyone as competition and as a ripple effect cause comparison.
Comparison is one of the worst things to have on our mind as we can convince ourselves that we aren't good enough and this causes us to be in a negative headspace.
On the flip side, we also then have the tendency to tear other people down in order to feel good about ourselves and our abilities. This is also not an ideal mindset to be in.
Focusing too heavily on what other people are doing robs our time and energy and causes us to lose sight of our own path and what we want to achieve. We need to be able to look to others as inspiration and keep our heads down and focus on our own achievements without comparing them to others as we are all on our own unique paths.
Causes Greed
When starting to be in a hustle mindset, there was once a goal other than money wasn’t there? Maybe you had a message to share with the world and in return saw that this was something you could monetize.
Now the constant hustling is bringing in more and more money, and all you have started to care about is the money. Till one day you have forgotten the reason behind why you are doing this anymore.
It has become one big fat paycheck. Maybe your intentions were good at the beginning but now all of that has gone out the window. When we work with just money in mind, our work becomes inauthentic and it shows.
As much as it is satisfying to make money off something we love, we need to also constantly check-in and remember the root of why we began this journey in the first place and honor our authenticity.
There is nothing wrong with wanting to hustle for your dreams and to maintain a certain lifestyle, but we can’t get so caught up and obsessed with it to the point that we can't think of anything else.
Eventually, it gets in the way of our creativity and our personal life. When we do what we love it doesn’t feel like work and it comes to us with ease.
There needs to be a balance with intense action and ease. Creating this balance is the perfect formula for success. Will we feel great if we have earned a lot of money but allowed our mental health to deteriorate in the process?
Instead creating harmony between the two will leave us with a great sense of achievement and will be emotionally fulfilling too.
