If so, this is how to restore hope and joy

Life is real edgy for a lot of families these days.

The sense of focus is blurred and the sense of direction is lost. It is hard to find a tiny glimmer of hope because all the simultaneous catastrophic events that confront many of us are blinding. The pandemic, social unrest, political divisiveness, school disruptions, and the economic crisis have caused many parents to feel as though their family is on the verge of collapse. It has become increasingly difficult to endure the enormous weight of these atrocities. Sadly, these serious problems have stolen the joy out of family life.

For many families, it feels as though each passing day is filled with melancholy. Unfortunately, very real feelings of desperation adversely impacts parents as well as their children. Despite the deep sense of dread that chases these families, I truly believe that a small beam of light can be found among the darkest clouds. If a mother or a father has the will to hold their head up to look for it, that ray of light will be spotted. When light is found, hope will be discovered.

The following words will help parents realize that, no matter what life circumstances confront them, hope will restore joy in their family. Simply stated, here are the step to receiving it.

1. Receive the Power

Prayer and mediation have the capacity to be powerful forces in life.

Quiet reflection, communicating with God, and listening to the still small voice that resides within the heart strengthens the body, mind, and soul. Spiritual introspection activates the senses. Vision and hearing become fine tuned. Information that is received into the mind becomes clearer.

Ultimately, prayer and mediation releases inner strength that increases the ability to take positive steps in life to improve negative family circumstances. This invites joy back into the family.

2. Maintain a Spirit of Thankfulness

Sometimes it is easy to overlook the basic yet critical things in life that should fill the soul with gratitude. Fresh air to breathe, bright sunlight that provides warmth and beauty, and clear fresh water to quench the thirst are among these vital necessities. Beyond these examples, there are so many other things in life to be grateful for.

When families adopt a spirit of thankfulness, they recognize and acknowledge all their blessings in their life. This enables them to respect the lives that they live unconditionally.

There is no greater way to rediscover the joy that daily grace and mercy bring into family life.

3. Welcome Each Day

The best way to alleviate the stress that uncertainty brings is to consider each day as a new beginning. This healthy perspective sets the stage for the family to have a fresh start everyday.

Developing the positive routine of greeting the morning with a hearty welcome will enable the family to find value in the new day. Whether it is quietly enjoying the sunrise, listening to the birds chirp during breakfast, or reciting a favorite scripture with children while getting dressed for the day like,

“This is the day that that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it” -Psalm 118:24

will to contribute a very happy day for the family.

4. Believe

It does not take much for parents to believe. Having as much faith as a child is all that is required for the mountain of doubt and other obstacles that destroy the quality of family life to be removed.

Child-like faith is very simple and extremely pure. It has no limitations. This kind of faith is magical. That is what believing the impossible is all about.

Life circumstances change for the good when faith is involved. This also reflects hope. Faith and hope uplift the family.

5. Enjoy Simple Pleasures

Parents must be willing to embrace the joy that special moments shared with their children bring.

Natural and happy moments are found minute by minute, hour by hour, and day by day. Precious heart-warming, stress-free minutes do not cost anything. The simplicity of these hours fills the mind, body, and spirit with optimism. Each day becomes brighter when smiles and laughter become one with family time.

A family walk in the park to explore nature, cooking fun recipes and reading interesting books together, and a family pajama party are among some of the endless ways that parents are able to experience the happiness of enjoying simple pleasures with their children.
