Is Death Close to You?

The value of human life is absolute, isn’t it? Many people claim so…

As humanity, we try our best to avoid the death of each individual:

• We developed a powerful medical system
• We decreased the amount of violence in the world
• We created institutions that should solve problems peacefully

Still, death is pretty close to each of us.

History

For the whole history of humanity, people were dying. Usually, it wasn’t a pleasant death, the one Tyrion Lannister wished for himself. People were dying mostly in a brutal and ugly way.

Usually, other people killed them.

Just google what Inquisition did to people…

Inquisition wasn’t the worst organization that killed people in history. And definitely, Inquisition wasn’t the last one with arms in blood. Instead of Inquisition, we have Countries and Ideologies today.

Killing of people continues to this day. Now killing isn’t chaotic and messy as it was previously. It’s a systematic process with concrete rules and participants. But the results are still the same — thousands of corpses.

It’s called War.

Modern World

Most people believe that War is a relic of the past:

• War is an impossible scenario in the XXI century.
• Humanity is too advanced.
• There is no sense in War, after WWII it became clear to everyone.
• The only way to win War — is never to start War.

Still, we have Wars…

War in Ukraine is a good example of modern violence.

Most people in Ukraine didn’t expect War to come into their lives.

They didn’t believe that War is a possible option.

Now tens of thousands of people are dead…

And every day there are new corpses.

Hidden threats

Interesting that War in Ukraine affected not only Ukrainians. Many people around the world will suffer too.

The most obvious example is the upcoming food crisis in Africa.

Ukraine and Russia are large suppliers of food to the world market. The Russian invasion of Ukraine created a huge lack of food in the world. Demand is high, but there is not enough food for everyone.

Rich countries will survive. They will pay more to get food, but they can afford it. High prices usually don’t kill.

What about poor 3rd world countries? They cannot compete with the US, which will pay more for food. We all know the winner of this race.

So what will happen if there is not enough food for everyone in the country?

Famine

Trust me, famine can kill people more than any other weapon in the world.

Looks like globalization has both positive and negative sides.

So What?

War is a possible option for everyone. It may be an all-out War like in Ukraine. It may be a silent famine-killer like in Africa. It may be even an act of terrorism in a peaceful city far away from the battlefield. But War can come into anyone’s life…

Life isn’t that safe.

Death is close to everyone.

But wait!

Should we live our lives in constant fear of death?

No!

The presence of Death in our lives is just a great reminder.

• We have to keep in mind how fragile our lives are.
• We have to value our lives more.
• We need to enjoy our lives more.
• We should live in the present moment and feel it.

Because your life can end. And one day it will.

Human life is so precious because it is so fragile.
