How To Navigate All The New-Age Healers And Fake Lightworkers
The toxic hype around having a spiritual awakening
Humans have always been sensitive to hypes and trends. We all try to find a way to belong — it’s actually engraved in our DNA. When our early ancestors still lived among tribes and an individual didn’t belong to the group, it would probably mean they’re dead. After all, a lion or a bear is much more likely to attack one single person than a group of people.
Humans need others to thrive. We are social beings and require connection. That is why a hype or trend becomes popular — it gives us the feeling of belonging.
The trend of spiritual awakening
The world is opening up more and more to a new consciousness, and many people are getting aware of how they lived their lives mostly inside a toxic system. The pandemic was a big reason for many people to stop and really think about what the hell they are actually doing.
A lot of people realized there is more to life than just working and making money. Many fell into depressions, only to realize it was actually a spiritual awakening.
Being ‘spiritual’ is becoming more widely accepted, and the massive growth in yoga-, meditation- and plant medicine retreats are a direct reflection of that.
A hype means a business opportunity
And when something becomes popular, it means money is flowing in that direction as well. Everybody wants a piece of it. Whether it is the piece of easy money, or the piece of finding a purpose in your life — there are different reasons why people want to be part of the spiritual ascension that is taking place.
And this is also where it can get confusing for people who are truly seeking to heal themselves. Love and light are words often used within the new-age spiritual world. It makes you believe that everybody has good intentions and as long as it’s love what they are preaching, their heart must be in the right place, right?
To me, it was very hard to distinguish the fake spiritual people from the real ones in the beginning. I got intrigued with many teachings and healings, and believed that everybody on a spiritual path is trying to make the world a better place.
Unfortunately, it often doesn’t work like that. Actually, being spiritual probably makes you an even easier target for people just wanting to make money out of you.
After all, the fact that you entered into a spiritual awakening means you have to heal something within yourself. You are probably in a vulnerable state and uncertain about what is happening to you. This is the exact moment you can easily become a prey.
How to protect yourself from fake healers
Many fake spiritual people have done quite some research to know exactly what they need to say to you. They get your attention by telling a compelling story about themselves first. This makes you resonate with them, and you believe they are on the same frequency as you.
They then proceed with telling how they healed themselves, and how they can help you too. Whether it is by selling you their online courses, or by demanding you spend time with them — this is where to start being careful.
Nobody can heal you except yourself.
A true awakened person doesn’t tell you about their achievements. He shows you by the way he lives his life. He inspires you to be better, by being a positive example. He radiates love, without telling it to everybody constantly. He protects Mother Earth and motivates others to do the same. He doesn’t judge and knows everyone is on their own journey, at their own pace.
His actions speak louder than words.
But most of all, your intuition will tell you if it’s right. It’s exactly that little voice in the back of your mind that whispers something is off. It’s the sensation of being anxious around that person, without knowing why.
They might not have bad intentions, but you are just on a different frequency. Don’t ever force a connection that is not there from both sides.
What happens after a spiritual awakening?
A real spiritual awakening never ends. It’s not just one period in your life that you are ‘awakening’. It’s a life-long pursuit. It wakes you up to a whole new consciousness, and this can be very hard sometimes. There are a lot of negative side effects that come with a spiritual awakening, and it’s definitely not all “love and light”.
If you are truly getting through a spiritual awakening, your life can never be the same again. Be aware of people who claim they have awakened, but actually live exactly the same way as they used to before.
Some people get extra sensitive to the world around them, and this can be challenging as well. You take on frequencies that are not even yours to begin with. A spiritual awakening teaches you as well how to deal with these sensations, which is different for everybody.
Ultimately, a spiritual awakening teaches you to trust in your intuition. That life happens for you and that you can handle anything that comes your way. It doesn’t mean your life is going to be perfect from now on, it just means you can deal with all the situations as they come, and don’t try to change or force anything.
It gives you a sense of peace — knowing that everything happens for a reason. You might not know the reason yet, but that’s not the point. You just need to deal with it right now, in this present moment.
A spiritual awakening makes you understand that everything you need, you already have.
All you need to do is accept it.
