is anyone listening?
A poem

as we wait for our turns to speak my eyes wander down your temples they rest at your jawline before they move to your lips
how badly I wanna kiss you right now
a frown between your eyebrows you look at me as though you want an answer
I haven’t paid attention
“sorry, what did you just say?”
your voice is moving through my skull rearranging my feelings for you that I had thought to be gone
one hundred and twenty-two reasons why we shouldn’t go down that way why you hurt me why what we had wasn’t enough why we weren’t a good match
one hundred and twenty-two one hundred and twenty-three
I am still coming up with new ones
as my tongue is desperately waiting for you to finish so that I can talk and make you listen.
