The internet is filled with tests that, after asking a bunch of questions will tell you: Congratulations, you are an introvert/extrovert, but what does that mean? What are you supposed to do with that information?
That is why I wanted to give you a hand understanding the main differences among the extensive personality spectrum, simplified with a graphic.
We are not just introverts or extroverts, but we have tendencies. And in order to live fully, some balance should be sought.
These are the topics covered by this article:

- Find out what your tendency is with one simple question

Personality diagram

Introverts
- Myth: shy, insecure, selfish, lonely, and mean
- Energy: their vital energy goes to the inside thinking, meditating, reading…
- Recharge: spending time alone
- Problem: too much time with people may make them feel disconnected from themselves, and, therefore, moody and anxious
Tips
- Plan some alone time daily, for instance, a meal
- On weekends, enjoy some comfortable time at home
- Learn to say no, there’s no need to go to every plan you are invited to
- Dealing with complicated emotions: think, meditate and write down your thoughts. Process them within yourself, calmly
Extroverts
- Myth: outgoing and confident
- Energy: their vital energy goes to the outside. Ideas and thoughts are better formed and understood during conversations and debates
- Recharge: social gatherings
- Problem: too much time alone makes them feel anxious and completely uncharged
Tips
- Plan social gatherings with friends and family
- Try working out with people
- Call your friends and family daily
- Listen to a podcast to avoid feeling lonely
- Dealing with complicated emotions: exteriorize your feelings and share them with your closest circle of friends
Question
The way you recharge tells you your tendency. So answer this question:
After a long week, what is it you prefer: resting at home or going out with some friends?
It is as simple as that. Do you prefer to rest at home? Introvert tendency. Do you prefer going out? Extrovert tendency.
Of course, as I said before, it is very important to find some balance.

Structure
Controlled by the superego: rules and standards. Very methodic and individualist.
- Characteristics: excessive structure, order, control, narcissism, and perfection
- Problems: demanding and using achievements as a measure of value. Changes and spontaneity give them anxiety
- Punctuality: always on time
Tips
- Leave time for spontaneity and things you cannot control
- Practice creativity: yoga, cooking without recipes, dancing, waking up without an alarm…
Caos
Controlled by the Id: impulsive and desire-driven. Very flexible and dependent.
- Characteristics: complete disorganization, lack of consistency, and very spontaneous
- Problems: thrives on drama, total lack of control periods followed by regret, and dependant on people to feel complete
- Punctuality: never on time
Tips
- Seek organization and structure
- Set up alarms and reminders
- Use checklists to achieve your daily tasks and goals
It is very important to understand how your mind works and try to organize your life around it. The more you know yourself, the more you’ll respect yourself and get the best out of who you are.
What is more, you’ll learn to be more tolerant and comprehensive with the people that are different from you. Why? Because you’ll understand and not judge.
This is how I understood personalities and the importance of balance. Keep in mind that I am not a psychologist, but a person trying to understand and share all those things I find useful, for those who may need them as much as I did.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this article! I am grateful that I could share my knowledge with you and truly hope it somehow helped you. If you have something you would like to add or another insight on the matter, don’t hesitate to share it with me.
Have a lovely day!
