Introduction to Tooth Truth Roopa Vikesh
Top Writer in Diversity, curated in Education and Nonfiction

I am a dentist working in Jamshedpur, India. It is home to the Tatas, who make steel and the Tata trucks here.

It is a nice city, but the stories I write are of the people in the city, not the city itself.
I have spent 20 years here, and I throw in stories about studying in 6 different schools across India and living under my dad’s Railway-man umbrella.

Most of my stories are truth or fiction based on truth. Tooth Truth, after all, by Roopa Vikesh.
I lost my mom in 2015 to a deep vein thrombosis that killed her in seconds, and I’m not over it.
I have two kids, both girls, now a teen and a tween, and a husband who who like me is also a dentist.

I am a lifelong reader, not a writer. I started writing on Medium due to the pandemic. I try to write stuff that might surprise you by the circumstances as well as the events. This is the story of mine Medium curators picked.

Photography is an important part of my work as well, but my Medium articles on teeth tank.

Maybe people find teeth with braces ugly, even if they have been straightened.

I’m telling forty years’ worth of stories in the space of the Pandemic, which is creating new stories of its own.
On Medium, I have found a new perspective and have learnt more than I have shared. Many thanks to the great writers who move me with their stories and teach me so much.
I try to write complete stories without making you have to go off to a bunch of links to figure out what I am saying. Even if I link it, (e.g, Mysore) I tell you a bit about it (people there think 20 is freezing and 32 degrees is a heatwave) so I don’t waste your time. Make it easy for the reader is my mantra.
I’ve tried to write poetry, but in my case poetry is also a story, compressed into free and sometimes rhymed verse.
You will need my photos to understand my text, because of the diversity in cultures.
Dr Mehmet Yildiz , many thanks for nudging us to create author bios.
