Introducing Woke in Action, a Publication Dedicated to Advocacy for Racial Equality and Social Justice
Wokeness is essential to healing the festering wound of American racism.

Welcome to Woke in Action, a Medium publication dedicated to positive engagement and advocacy for racial equality and social justice.
This publication provides writers a forum to share, discuss, and engage in wholesome and constructive ways on matters involving race, gender, sexual orientation, diversity, and economic opportunity.
While Woke in Action is, first and foremost, a safe and nurturing space for marginalized/disadvantaged/progressive voices to be heard, this publication is not a progressive echo chamber. Much of the content here is designed not only to give voice to marginalized viewpoints, but also to persuade “un-woke” and “anti-woke” hearts and minds and to foster mutual respect.
Accordingly, Words in Action also encourages respectful contributions from writers on the conservative/privileged end of the spectrum who wish to explore and foster greater understanding with the woke community.
This publication has a particular interest in reclaiming, redeeming, and re-sanctifying the term “Woke” in today’s social, political, and ethical discourse.
Wokeness is a term that originated in America’s Black community nearly a hundred years ago to describe and encourage a state of awareness and alertness to racial and social injustice, but has now been opportunistically coopted by politically conservative/right-wing forces to disparage a wide range of people and causes that support the improvement and promotion of equality, civil rights, and social justice.
- This publication aims to restore vitality, pride, and power to “woke” languaging and “woke” advocacy.
- This publication fights right-wing co-optation of “wokeness” by calling out and rebutting “anti-woke” propaganda in the press and social media.
- This publication actively engages with “anti-woke” writers and influencers to explore whether common ground can be found — and mutual respect can be gained — in our increasingly toxic public discourse.
If you are interested in becoming a contributing writer to this publication, please leave a comment and I will review it as soon as possible.
Thanks very much for your interest.
Let’s do this…together!
Sincerely,
Kevin L. Hing, Editor
