If you want to become a Top Writer on Medium, here’s the full list of tags that are eligible for Top Writer status

I see many writers who use tags that don’t have any chance of earning them a Top Writer badge.

Why?

Medium’s next Top Writer

If you want to become Medium’s next Top Writer, you need to know which tags are eligible for Top Writer status.

Unfortunately, Medium doesn’t provide a list. You have to do some research and check the different tag pages on Medium.

As your coach, here’s a list of popular tags that are eligible for Top Writer status and the number of published stories on Medium.

How to tag correctly

In July 2021, I wanted to step on the gas and see what would happen when I write short form posts on a daily basis.

My creative output was around 55 articles!

Medium awarded me Top Writer in #Creativity’ and #Social Media.

But what about #Short form?

❌To keep it short: I didn’t tag my articles correctly.

#Short Form isn’t eligible for Top Writer status.
#Short Story (with 157K published stories) is the correct tag.

Let me give you a simple example:

Go to the draft you want to add tags to and click Publish.
Chose Change tags.

Type in your tags and press Enter to confirm.

⚠️Hint: You can add up to 5 tags. Use all of them!

Pick for instance one or two tags you want to become a Top Writer in and three or four others to be more specific about what your story is all about.

In my example, the views, claps, and comments will only count toward Top Writer status in #Short Story and #Parenting.

Only these two tags can gain you a Top Writer badge.

❌#New York, #Midwife, and #Family don’t belong to the most popular tags on Medium and therefore won’t make you a Top Writer.
