The New Normal — The Future of Work and Tech

The world around us is always changing. As we get older it seems like technology only gets younger. Oftentimes, these changes give us our greatest challenges in trying to understand, learn, and sometimes simply talk the lingo.

Please join me as I discuss all things digital and make what seem like complex topics, easy to digest, comprehend, and understand.

As outsiders looking in on the technology space, some have described my articles and talks as “easy to understand,” “simple explainer to hard to learn topics,” and “passion and confidence in every sentence.” I am eager to meet you similarly.

Technology and More We Can Explore Together

Who am I anyway?

According to my professional bio, I’m an accomplished business consultant with experience working with small and medium enterprises and state and local governments. This really means I worked in and loved the city and state government, but left because I dreaded the idea of an IT project that never fully delivers, never meets its ROI, and fails to meet expectations. While the public sector could be massively improved (like many industries) with innovative technology, there are generally limited incentives and motivation to make this a reality. If you have ideas for how we can make a bigger impact and improve public sector processes, I’m all ears.

Beyond that, I have been recognized as a thought leader in Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Process, and all things Digital. While I enjoy talking and learning more about these topics, I love to share the experiences I have in industry which have been featured on NBC, RTInsights.com, MarketWatch, TowardsDataScience.com, Data-Driven Investor, Insurance Innovation Reporter, Yahoo News, and more.

As of this publishing date, professionally I work as the head of global content and digital experience strategy at Digital Intelligence software company ABBYY.

ABBYY acquired technology start-up TimelinePI, Inc. in August 2019, where I was the head of the Process Intelligence company’s marketing function. Since the acquisition, I’ve overseen the development of ABBYY Timeline’s marketing, messaging, and positioning that facilitated and drove education to ABBYY’s global sales teams, partners, and customer channels about the growing Process Intelligence trend.

Before TimelinePI, I led an independent consultancy firm for small and medium enterprises and worked with the public sector for the City of Philadelphia and other state and local agencies. My focus was on IT planning, streamlining and modernizing citizen (customer) experiences, and implementing and integrating enterprise technologies that transformed organizations for the digital age.

I studied Business Analytics and Operations Management and later earned my Master of Business Administration from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania. I have an Executive Education certificate from Columbia University’s School of Business in Digital Marketing and I continue to hold a faculty appointment as Adjunct Professor at Widener University in the fields of business management and digital media informatics.

I appreciate a good cold beer but have been sipping on more gluten-free choices as of late. I yearn to fill my passport with new stamps, and my photo album with pictures of new cities, museums, historical locations and generally appreciate learning new things. I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty, and always eager to try something new. Maybe there’s something we can work on together… let me know! Tweet me @ryraiker!

So why should follow along and read my stories here?

Well, I approach technology in a pragmatic way. My goals are to make complex topics easy to understand and aim to challenge the status quo of remaining stagnant because “that’s the way we’ve always done it.” I hope that if you have questions we can interact in the comments, or on LinkedIn.

I’m a lover of work from home, but more importantly, work from anywhere. You’ll have to know I’m so supportive, I am currently sharing this with you from a fine watering hole in Northeast Philadelphia known as the Brick House. The owner Steve is a gentleman, always a welcoming place, and the staff keeps your drinks full the entire time it takes to write an article and sometimes longer! :)

I look forward to sharing more stories with you, perhaps from the local bar stool, a beach chair, or the home office. I’ll strive to continue to explain tech with an easy conversation, and making the complex, hard to understand, as simple as sipping a cold beverage.
