Introducing: Lynda Coker
Storyteller, fabric artist, and insatiable student of life
About
That subtitle is very appropriate because I’m about as average as they come. As my dad was in the military, I spent my childhood moving from one place to another. I loved the nomadic life, changing schools often, making lots of new friends, and discovering nuances of life I would never have learned otherwise.
My tweens and teens were shared with The Mickey Mouse Club, Gidget, and Rock and Roll. I married the love of my life after graduating high school and we raised a family together. In 2023 we’ll celebrate 59 years of pledged love.
I was born with a fascination with words and their ability to transport readers into realms of adventure, fantasy, and romance. I’m the undisputed, biggest fan of Happy-Ever-After stories.
What I like to write
My nonfiction stories will primarily have an optimistic tone. I’m confident, positive, and cheerful. Those qualities permeate my perspective and of their own accord, find little niches for themselves amongst my words.
My fiction stories will be centered around the traditional romance between a man and a woman. Their journey is difficult and true love always comes at a price. But I believe eternity was created from love — for love.
My poetry springs from somewhere even I can’t find. It just happens. Something I see or hear just begs me to give it a voice. I’m not a poet who strives for literary eloquence at the expense of simplicity. I don’t want the meaning to be lost in the clashing cymbals of fancy words whereby a reader must remove himself from the poem’s message and seek a dictionary.
Creativity fuels creativity
Writing consistently uses a lot of energy and thought, which can drain a writer’s zeal. So I recharge my creative batteries by allowing intervals of time for other activities. One I truly love is working with fabric to create wall art. And, of course, there is always an unbelievable story to accompany each creation.
With so many talented writers on Medium, I thank all my readers for choosing to spend some of their precious time with me.
