Introducing DR Rawson
Medium Writer and Author

“Never let the past hold the future hostage” DR Rawson
DR Rawson has many amazing talents. He’s an author, and a writer, he had too many businesses to count, he is a philanthropist, he is a Mason, he is a Vietnam veteran, in addition, he is a father of six children, 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. If you can think of a profession or a business DR probably has done it. He is an amazing storyteller who shines through both of his books. Last year he released a book called Unlikely and this year his new book Carlo Chapman is currently being published.
I was fortunate to be able to have an interview with DR this week and learn about some of the amazing stories he experienced throughout his life. DR is now retired, and he started to write on Medium about one year ago. He started to write on the platform because he did not want to fail retirement.
DR is a natural storyteller. He’s one of these people that you can sit and listen to his stories for hours and hours. During our conversation, there were a few quotes that he told me that just really touch your heart and soul.
My favorite one is
“If you help enough other people, you will have what you need”.
One of the most amazing stories that DR was telling me about involved children. When you hear a story like this it is very difficult not to have emotions or teary eyes. DR was working in India for a while with wonderful heart surgeon Dr. Steven Shetti. Doctor Steven was a cardiologist who is in heart surgeries for children in India. DR visited the hospital where he was doing the surgeries and asked if there was anything that he could do to help. The doctor was doing a lot of surgeries that were funded by a local wealthy family. DR just felt like he needed to do something for these children and this hospital.
Doctor Shetti so that there’s one thing he could do that would be very helpful. He said that DR could go and find 20 children from the United States who cannot afford cardiac surgery and sponsor those children to get a flight to India for their surgery and recuperation and rehabilitation. The children and their parents would stay 30 days after their surgeries, and everything was paid for.
Can you imagine being that parent receiving the call to let your child have a chance for heart surgery that you did not imagine was going to be possible?
Maybe because I am a mother, and this could happen to me this was just one of those stories that touched my heart.
There’s another quote that I like that DR mentioned during our interview;
“Cannot give up hope”.
It seems so simple yes just don’t give up right? DR made a lot of things possible in his life for other people provided jobs, landed money for his employees and their families when they needed it, provided food for homeless children, and created a product to support homeless people on the East Coast so they wouldn’t be that cold during the winter. DR the scribes this special technique and the special pad that was created for this reason.
DR also shares with me that because he was working so much in 2007, he suffered a cardiac rest and he died, and they brought him back.
Right there and then he decided it was time to slow down get rid of the businesses and leave a little bit quieter alive to be around for his children and grandchildren and great-grandchildren and of course his wife. She was the one who told him during that summer that he has not even enjoyed the summer he’s just been in his office all summer long. This was not the first time in DR’s life that he had to change things and reevaluate how he’s taking care of himself and the people around him.
DR loves telling stories, hearing stories from other people, entertaining, and spending time with his family.
More recently he enjoys writing and he has so many wonderful ideas that they keep ending up in a book. Both of DR’s books are very relatable and entertaining. I can highly recommend for others read his books and check out his work on the Medium platform if you like to hear him telling a few of the stories that are also in the book and a few that is not please check out the interview that we did together that’s currently on the YouTube platform.
