Interoception; The hottest trend in Neuroscience, that everyone needs and no one can spell.
When I took the the Uncertainty Experts interviews to the scientists working on the show they explained to me the models each one of my ‘experts’ was intuitively applying.
The first one they taught me about was interoception.

As Katherine Templar Lewis (a Creative Scientist with three Masters, so someone worth trusting on this sort of thing) told me “Interoception is such a new concept in neuroscience, you can’t spell check it, but this time next year, you’ll hear it everywhere.”
With good interoception, you begin to understand the nuanced signals and information from your body, that your brain alone might otherwise miss.
The Uncertainty Experts developed advanced interoception due to the real world re-wiring of their brains as a result of prolonged exposure to Uncertainty.
Interoception really means the process by which our cognitive, or thinking, brain intelligence communicates with, and is informed by, our emotional, or feeling, body intelligence.
From a racing heart to butterflies in our stomach, our emotions are linked to physical sensations which we often ignore or misinterpret.
For example, children generally have low interoceptive capacity, which is why they may not be able to distinguish whether a tummy ache is due to hunger or worry.
On the other hand, people who have good interoceptive awareness have been shown to have a distinct advantage to engage in life’s challenges.
Most of the Uncertainty Experts develop strong interoceptive skills, so they could use their cognitive and emotional faculties in tandem to evaluate situations for potential risk or reward.
Although interoceptive accuracy is a highly sophisticated technique, all human beings have the potential to master it.
Interoception is such a new concept in neuroscience, you can’t spell check it, but this time next year, you’ll hear it everywhere.
Another way of putting it is that, interoception is the awareness of the physical signals inside our body from a racing heart to butterflies in our stomach.

And the point of it, is simple, with good interoception, you have better instincts and intuition.
People with high interoceptive awareness can detect early warning signals of mental and physical illness, but they also have greater empathy, and better decision making skills.
Scientifically speaking, the good Dr’s at the Decision Making in Uncertainty Lab at UCL (which is part of their Brain Sciences Department) who ran all the tests on the Uncertainty Experts audiences, interoception is key to decision making in Uncertinaty.
More basically speaking, interoception makes you Yoda.
